Not owned a Rallye but currently smoking about in a GTI. Imo cracking little cars, and while i got mine as go between i actually getting attached to it lol.

My brother has a GTi 6 and it's good fun, been pretty reliable while he's had it bar a lambda sensor failing and it leaking PAS fluid.
Good fun to drive and easy to be a hooligan in. Lift off oversteer is fun and easy to provoke. Build quality is poor and it does have that flimsy "crash me and I'm taking you with me" feel about it.
It's easy to see why they are popular
