Default engine knocking....

just fitted my saph engine into my 3 door. it was sweat when in my saph but now it's in my 3 door there is a rattle.
it only rattles when pressing the throttle. does'nt rattle on idle, does'nt rattle if i hold the rev's at 3000, 4000, or 5000rpm. only rattle's when putting my foot down.

what i've done since swapping engine.
cleaned engine
fitted new group a head gasket
remove 1 big end cap and 1 main's cap to check the size of crank and torqued back up.

i've had a problem with starting it as had the fuel pipes round the wrong way.
the only thing i can think of is that i turned it over that much it's done some damage.??

what do you think it will be??

If you turned the car over and over the fuel will find its way into the sump and thin the oil and wash the shells, i doubt you have done this as you had the fuel lines back to front.
are you 100% you put the caps back without any dirt on the shells?.

Just what I was thinking, how long has the engine been sat? My car doesn't get used very often so on start up for the first minute or 2 my lifters are noisy but my car does sit for weeks on end without being started. Get it warm and it should go away.

a rattle which is heard only when revving the enging (under load) is normally a worn or damaged big or little end.

Damaged big end causes a rattle on over run doesn't it?

unplug the ht lead off of the cyl that you checked the big end bearing on.

now rev the engine.

i know it will misfire but has the noise gone??

by unplugging the lead it will take the load off of that cylinder.

can't really hear it when just revving. it's when you driving the car.

definatly when engine is on load then. must be big or little end.

can't think of anything else it could be.

little end sounds like a tappet, very light noise.

big end sounds alot deeper.

little ends make a noise when you have revved it up and then taken your foot of the throttle.

i was going to say if its a rattle more likely to be a little end but if its bottom its usually a knocking imo.if it has picked up on one you will probably get away with having the crank polished if you haven't deathed it.new set of shells and all should be fine.

Check the oil spray jets are'nt catching the crank, there is'nt to much clearance and it's easy to have disturbed them if you've been working on the bottom end, I made that mistake once and it does sound like a big end rattle!!.
