Default FAO Chip / sbd16v

Bit of technical guidance/advice please.

Myself and a good mate are in the planning stages of a replacement for the trusty Primera track shitter, and have settled on a Corsa B powered by a LET engine.

Whats concerning me is how sturdy are these engines for track use, say at about 260/270bhp? Is there any need for a baffled sump - bearing in mind it'll be on 15" slicks?

Any helps greatfully appreciated guys?

It was the right thing to do at the time mate.

Still, fancy a change again, but keeping it simple (ish LOL)

Guess so mate! Slippery slope springs to mind yet again though mate LOL

Why a corsa though mate? Why not an astra or is the corsa a better handling motor?

On slicks, a baffled sump at least is a must, preferably a dry sump conversion.

accusump maybe be another option, but ive not used one on a LET to know how good they are on this engine.

PS

at 260/270bhp they are about as reliable as a YB at the same level, ie essentially totally reliable if properly serviced and in good order to start with.

Nice one, would it be the kind of job any decent engine builder could do? I had one done for my S2, and it wasnt a hugely expensive job from memory.

Nothing especially complicated mate, same as any other engine essentially.

ahhhh good choice welcome to the dark side of cheap easy 270bhp

if you blow it up its going to cost im afraid

set of secondhand rods and pistons will set you back a whopping 100 quid
xe block will be another 50 quid
crank a shocking 50 quid unground suitable for standard bearings
head will be a crazy 50-100 quid with cams etc

h beam steel rods are avalible for under 300 quid

i would not trust a standard sump on slicks, im going to try a accusump myself at some point, or a dry sump when i can stretch to one.

but overal as chip says at 270bhp you aint going to have any problems

i'm running cut slicks, and have never needed a dry sump setup. i'm running 290bhp and cars been 99% reliable i do about 4 track days a year plus santa pod a fair few times in the year. corsa turbo's are very good fun!

if you can afford a dry sump set-up go for it. but like stated above is'nt really need, a good breather system is tho!

Cheers for that. I'd come across a set of H beam rods and they were something like 300 quid, i thought it was a misprint! Seemingly not.

Been bored today at work so spent most of the time with an imaginary shopping list! LOL
