Default retracting a statement before court..?

hi.. does anyone know if you can retract a statement that was to be used in court ie if you did a witness statement for something and wanted to retract it. can it be done..?
any help..

im sure you can retract it, but then you can be done for other things. ask timrud? on here.

Yes it can be done.Go to the police station and tell them you want to retract the statment,you will then have to make a statment saying that you want your original statment retracted, make sure in the statment that you say that you are not willing to stand up in court and will not support any prosecution.Presuming you are a witness to an incident?

go and ask a lawyer. youll get definitive 100% true answers stating both yes and no from people who will all gaurantee they are experts and 100% correct on here.

nothing to do with police it was over a year and a half ago i witnessed a small car accident .. ive recently been told its going to court over 300 miles away from home and to be honest i really cant remember it.. ..

You don't NEED to remember it, use your own statement to refresh your memory.
If you have to go to court, you can claim allowances etc for the day, and they are pretty good as well, maybe even wangle a hotel for the night ?

i know that but i really cannot remember it still so on those grounds will not stick to the statement. its not the going to court thats the problem.. i belive i can now change my original statement but if not will state i court that i canot remember if called..

up here you only get expences if you are a prosecution witness and not a defence witness.

they have said i should get expenses but not enough to cover me..
ill see how i get on..
seems stupid if they still insist on me attending court if i tell them before hand that i will not be supporting the statement due to their threatening calls as the case will surely not go in their favour..
