I watched the live autopsy's on channel 4 last year.Truly amazing and very educational.
Dr gunther does this to educate and explain what a truly magnificent vehicle your body is.Any feeling of shock or disgust is mearly a side effect. If you have seen your own baby being born, then you will know exactly what i mean.
To be honest he's very misunderstood and can come accross as wierd.

Thanks to those guys who have made me feel normal again for wanting to see the exhibition! The others were making me feel like some morbid weirdo!

Stu - if you google bodyworlds, you can find out more, I'm pretty sure it's in London though until next august!

well to give your body for science is one thing, but for a pikey to earn $$$$ from you is totally different

imagine how his pets ended when they died

The body snatchers were active here before the USA even came into being, and the crime of grave-robbing didn't exist here until 1832, while Massachusetts introduced a law in 1831 that allowed Paupers bodies to be used, with other states following in subsequent years.

The case you refer to was John Harrison in Cincinnati in 1978. The son of a former President and (uniquely) father of another President, Harrison's case didn't, in itself lead to laws being passed, but certainly influenced new laws that came in afterwards.

http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/hi...rs/index.shtml

While we deplore the actions of the grave-robbers, we need to remember the amazing contributions of the anatomists that were only possible because of their "work".

Some interesting info about the background and another exhibition is available here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4509648.stm

When I die I will have no further use for my body so I carry a donor card to donate any parts to people needing spare parts, like heart, kidneys etc, and I've agreed to allow any other part be used for science or education. That's an informed decision by me that my family and friends are all aware of, so why should the plastic people be any different?

I'll accept that the kids wouldn't have been able to give that consent, but their parents surely did and - to me - that consent is no less valid than allowing the child's tonsils or appendix to be removed.

None of them are recognisable as the people they were, and the Doctor has always struck me as very respectful of them on his TV shows.

Personally, I think he deserves a medal for the work he's done in demystifying the body and the process of death for so many people.

If its educational and informative they can have my shoddy body when I'm gone. I clicked all the boxes on the donor card website when I registered....Pretty much they can take and do whatever to my body when I'm gone....
I'd prefer them to use my bits to help others out rather than displays like this but if my organs are fucked then plasticise them all you want......

Better than rotting away or becoming ash if you ask me....

Not a fan of that at all

Don't mind the actual gore side of things, just think dead bodies should be left un abused and not used to make some guy rich....

that looks an amazing exhibition, very interesting, so much more detail than I would have expexted. The guy has done a lot in his field of expertise and his "autopsy live" program was amazing also!!

Shocking. Only word for it.

Certainly put me off ever wanting to have kids. Not that I did anyway, but even less so now, lol.

Whatever floats people's boats, but certainly not for me

I am going to book tickets as it will be really interesting to see how we are made, I can understand people finding it weird or offensive but each to their own and you wont get another chance to examine the human body in such detail.
Deffo not weird in my opinion Maria.

But it is. At school we got to see diagrams of the human body, and we got to cut up frogs and the like, but their physiology are very different from ours, so it wasn't that helpful to understanding (for me, anyway).

How many people going to that exhibition out of curiosity would bother to find out what different parts of the body do, how they are connected to each other, and why they are important?

Now ask how many people who go to the show have seen at least some of these connections for themselves (like Maria's photo of the "tongue to the bottom") and have a slightly better understanding of what goes where. Not all of them, for sure, but I'd say a good proportion will leave just a little better educated than when they went in.

The simple fact is that this show allows "ordinary" people a glimpse inside our own bodies, takes away some of the fear, and erodes part of the mystique that some medical people would like to maintain about what they do to us.

It IS science, it's educating people as to whats just beneath their skin.

TBH, doesn't shock me as much, especially after seeing INSIDE my missus for a brief moment, when they did the cesarean!

wow, id like to have gone to that.

ive watched his tv shows where he does this sort of stuff in front of an audience.
very interesting.

i find it hard to relate the human bodies to real life, where as when i saw the horse i felt sorry for it! weird.

I guess that most people who went to watch that freak show learned that they shouldnt give their bodies to "science".

i understand folk wanting to give there bodys to medical research but giving it to someone for art and displaying it for someone to make money is a bit fucked up.even if he was to put the money back in to research in to other things fair enough but i thought he makes lots of money out of this?
in this day and age they could easy make the bodys out of other things rather than using real people.and you would still learn the same...

what i was thinking

i still doubt a mother hold child would sign a form allowing her and her unborn babie to be displayed for general paying public

just cant see how anyone whos got a child due would be thinking this to sign it, ok donor card for science,,,,, i agree but display with child ????
