Because Dyno Dynamics say so! LOL.

It's complicated to be honest, but they say it, so we do it (they did design the Dyno after all).

One of the reasons is that the standard DD rolling road has a low roller-speed limiter of under 130mph . Many fast cars would exceed this in 4th gear....

I'd leave that up to them to be honest. It's a difficult question to answer.

We usually do it for Dyno days for consistency, but don't usually do it for mapping/tuning.

That's not strictly true, it depends on how many gears the car has and what their ratio's are.

Kinda makes you scared of leaving your motor in the hands of somone incompitant, but how do you find out reputation of tuners if youre not really upto scratch on things?

No, you are right, but most 5/6 speed cars are run in third.

I'm led to believe that it needs to be the gear down form 1:1 which in my case is 4th gear.

A superb case of a piece of equipment only being as good as the person at the controls.

Had a rr day at TOTD a little while ago and we had a guy with a Corsa VXR with Regals 260 package (iirc) the car struggled to make 211bhp. The owner had a proper wobbler claiming the rollers were wrong

Regal's quoted figures are UTTER WANK in my opinion. I've heard lots of examples of this. I think they claim 200bhp from a remap on the 150bhp 1.9 CDTi Astra. No way on gods earth if you ask me.

Chris at TOTD told the bloke it was pinking its tits off and there was no way on Earth it would make what was claimed and he wouldn't have let it out the door. The owner was insistant it was run again with octane booster as the figures must be wrong.

Think the lad said Regal use a Mustang dyno if that means anything to you.

Don't know how Chris kept his patience to be honest as he obviously wasn't happy to run the car with the det etc.

the tuner of choice makes a claim that is backed up by several peole on the rollers

going to another set of rolelrs and getting much lower figures will mean either their money was spent on the xmas party or that their car isn't making the power

the owner isn't going to complain about their tuner of choice as it's easier to say the rolelrs are wrong for fear of losing face

We had a dyno feature a few months ago (no names mentioned) and two of the cars (which were running a product from a certain company retailed by the dyno operator) had massively higher ambient temps than all the other cars! Luckily they were spotted and left out of the test!
