Fiesta mk5 clutch release bearing.
A mate of mine has just bought his second mk5 fiesta zetec s, he has taken it back to the garage to have a few things he wasn't happy with sorted, one of which being the clutch release bearing grinding a bit. Obviously a fairly big job so the garage are trying to get out of doing it by saying its normal, strange thing is, he rang Pumabuild and Pumaspeed, (knowing they work with these engines all the time) and they said it was normal too?
His old one never did this, and neither have any others i've been in?
Are they just generally noisy or are three people talking crap?

My old 1.6 focus had the same engine/box as a fiesta zetec S, and yes, both engines/boxes i had fitted in there whined. Even a brand new clutch and release bearing whined.
Unless the clutch is worn out or its leaking clutch fluid then i would leave it well alone!

I posted up on the FFOC about a grinding noise coming from the clutch and was told it was just a noisy clutch release bearing. Guy also told me he gets plenty of fiestas and KAs in with this apparent "problem" but apparently it's completely normal. Guy is also a Ford Tech as well and was previous owner of my car.

It was a known problem on these vehicles and is not mileage-related. It is also not a warranty issue.
Ford did actually modify the slave cylinder in the gearbox though, and when retrofitting for the first time, you should also fit a modified pipe from the clutch master (although most of the time you can just bend the pipe slightly).
Seems to work either way.
My old R-reg 1.25 Fiesta had a whining clutch release which died about 35k (owned it from 26k) and had a modified one fitted in its place which was still going when I sold it with 83k on the clock. I also have a X-reg 1.25 Fiesta with the modified bearing as standard and that has never whined yet and has done 29k from new (owned it from new so can verify it all).
Modified release bearing = 1075776
Modified pipe (Fiesta and Puma models, not Zetec-S 1.6) = 1095276
Modified pipe (Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6) = 1105378
Modified pipe (Ka) = 1131246, superseded to 1144461
Hope this helps.
