Default S2 GRS Intercooler Fitting - How ?????

Probably been asked a million times before but......I've just tried fitting a GRS intercooler which was bought of Rudey around 9 months ago (do you know which model it is Rudey???) and I honestly can't see how it will fit without some series modifications!!

Can anyone provide me details on the best way to make it fit??

I did the following:

Removed the standard intercooler and left the radiator bolted on one side in its standard position. I then fitted a 10 inch Kenlowe directly to the radiator..... then I tried fitting the GRS....leaving about 5mm between the cooler and the centre nut on the fan the bonnet is no where near closing Probably needs to go back about 2 inchs I would think!!

u will need two 10" kenlows or it will over heat u just got to keep on moving it about until it fits but the bonnet catch will hit the cooler thou unless u got the mk4 grs

I'm gonna try running one and see how I get on until the summer

Move it about?? Where though? Does the radiator stay in its standard position or does it HAVE to move back?

Looking at I honestly can't see who it would fit

Whats the best way to modify the bonnet catch?

one should be enough if yer cooling system is fine.

i mounted the cooler with the brackets on the outside of the front panel, the top either needs dented in (not a wise move) or the bonnet catch cut in half, or more!.
when i done ma mates i mounted the fan on the outside cos we were runnin out of time it was booked in for a RR session, it didnt over haet in heavy traffic in the middle of summer this way. but fan in middle is prob best idea. move rad back with washers or sumitor even move the cooler forward with washers on the brackets so it sits as close to the bumper it can go.

The way it looks at the moment it needs to go back about 2 inchs which means the rad would be practically touching the actuator??

I'm starting to wonder if its definetly the right cooler

nah 2" it'll never go back, mount cooler as far forward as possible, cut the bonnet catch it'll be a cunt to open in future or dent the top of the cooler whhere the catch touches it, be carefull as bonnets have flew up cos of them. is it an evo 1 /2/3/4 etc?

mount rad as far back as possible, bearing in mind actuator moves.
it will fit, jus persevere. i'll try get pics of the one i done to let u see.

vroom dont ya live in scotland

thats why ya have no over heating problems even if ya replaced the fan with a hairdryer

john ha might be better off moving the cooler forward and cutting the bumper in bits rather than moving the rad near the turbo to boil the coolant system

I can't move the cooler any further forward because its actually hitting the bonnet where it sits now Not the catch the actual bonnet steel on the undeside

Some one must have some pictures of a GRS cooler fitted to a S2

mine was one of the first and is the biggest type i made brackets up which let me move the rad back where i wanted it, small bit of alloy or like mine carbon with two holes one to fix the new bracket, (the bolt hole which is used to hold the rad as standard) the other make long like two holes joined up so its a long hole, then when you fix the rad to it you can move it back and forth as you want, the other end need two wings bent up so you can bolt to the rad then as the same as you did with the first

lol if i was reading this i think i'd think WTF

Well I tried fitting the Evo 3 to mine the day before Trax but couldn't see how it would fit without carving the bumper about, I'm sure there was a way but me and Gabs tried it with the fans on the rad, then the bonnet wouldn't shut like John says, then tried it with the fans on the front of the intercooler and the bumper wouldn't fit... in the end I lost my rag and chucked my Pace back on and sold the GRS up at Trax lol

Graham I'm not slating your design or anything, but is it meant to fit without any mods to the bumper or rad?

you need 2 brackets one bolts on to the crossmember and holds the radiator back away from i/c other goes into front panel at top so you can angle it, you will also need a bit shaved off inside of bumper not much just enough to let i/c get some air plus youll need 2 cut a bit off bonnet catch not too much or you wont get your hand in to open bonnet, maybe better gettin bonnet pins and take catch off completely

Not yet...planning on doing it tomorrow night.....I'll let you know how I get on.

I've spoken to Graham from GRS....he reckoned it sounds like I've got the EVO3 cooler. This cooler was originally designed to have the fan fitted on the front rather than inbetween. Although some people have fitted it with the fan in between.

Graham also send me out the brackets to re-locate the radiator for FREE!! (even though I explained I got the cooler second hand!!) TOP GUY

ah but you've got no worries if your modding the bumper like we said, I can't do it cos I don't want to mod the bumper or move the rad...
