As far as I'm aware, yes, as is rear diff and rear shafts (front shafts are slightly longer, so good for lowered Cossies)

either shafts are fine. as martoon said, theyre identical anyway.

some people fit XR shafts to get round the problem of driveshafts popping out

The thing is i broke a shaft (drivers side) and a guy fitted an xr 4x4 shaft and since then i get a vibrasion when making a left turn at what ever speed even if the car is coasting out of gear, im also told the guy saw that the shaft was a tad longer and he so im told smashed the shaft in with a hammer, anyway long story short that shaft is now busted and ive taken the shaft from my escos (also a xr4x4 shaft) and put it in the sierra and still the vibrasion is there.

the shafts do not look like they are sat at the same angle on left and right front and drivers side looks like it bands way to much on the cv joint i think its called, also my car seem lower on the drivers side than the pas side front

on the pas side i can get my hand between the tyre and arch but cant on the drivers side, ive orderd new shocks to try and solve that issue but im wondering if he could of damaged the diff when taking a hammer to the shaft?

ive gone from 45mm lowering springs to 25mm lowering springs as im told the xr4x4 shaft dont like to be to low on the sapphire4x4 cosworth?

Mike R explained to me once that the fitting of XR4x4 shafts does have a downside most people overlook to do with the geometry i think. hopefully he can comment.

that being said, loads of people do it so you should be able to drive the car ok without vibration etc.!

if the diff is from a 2.8 it won't fit
the one that you want for a direct replacement like for like is frmo the 2.9 sierra/granada as it has the same ratio as the cossie one of 3.62:1

as for the shafts, they are longer, i can't rememebr exactly how much longer but i measured some up for charlie (jimmy) luciano a few weeks back for his to compare

it's something to do with them not popping out if the car is lowered too much as they are longer, and therefore have a greater range of movement than the normal cossie ones

the downside is that sometiems they will be too long and cause other issues like hitting the insides of the cv's at the longest point

the longer shafts can give vibration as the inner cv is at the end of it's travel when compressed and tri pod joint hits the inside of the cup, I had this on my xr4x4 after fitting cos 4x4 front hubs and brakes, so to solve the vibration I fitted the shorter cosworth shafts and problem solved.

the fitment intot he sump is different, it won't quite go in all the way

the casing for the 2.0 and the 2.9 are the same as the cossie cases

the 2.8 sump will fit the 2.9 but the diffs aren't interchangeable

also, i know this from experience as trying to fit the 2.0 and the 2.9 diff into a 2.8 sump meant the diff was sitting about an inch proud

should have taken pics when mick did his, but he'll confirm this, his sump now leaks a litle bit where the grooves in the crank seals at the end don't quite line up with the 2.9 block

as dojj put we had issues with mine but the set up is different..............

from what i can remember ( without checking the garage...)i was running a 24v 4wd setup with a 2.8 4x4 sump and a 2.9 mt75 4x4 box

we tried fitting the 2.0 diff to the 2.8 sump with no joy we then tried a 2.9 and again wouldn't fit but the 2.8 front diff did......the assumption then being that the 2.0 and 2.9 are the same with the 2.8 being different........
