light weight saph
Whats the lightest you think you could get a 2wd saph down to.
I mean carbon fibre boot, bonnet, plastic side windows.Bear minimum
but still road legal?
would it be possible to lose 100-150 kg?
Thanks
Graeme

this might sound silly but if thought about this a few times, if you were going completely track spec, i would guess you would put in a fairly good cage, could you then remove the back doors and just weld in some sheet in place with polly panels for the windows?? that way you would lose the weight of two doors and the cage would keep the rigidity??

My Sapphire with half a tank of fuel, but spare wheel removed, weighed 1275kg - this was heavily modified with different (read larger / heavier) wheels, brakes, tyres, intercooler etc).
JB has got his down to 1175kg with the carbon parts mentioned and stripping out the doors.

Basically as Mike says, but after fittin the boot & loosin a couple lil bits it weighs 1165kg wit roughly half tank fuel.
Got the roof bein done as we speak & got plenty of other things we can loose weight from. The aim is to get it down to 1100kg with half tank !! Hopefully !! lol
Still wanna keep a few creature comforts tho !! lol

As with all things a lot would depend on how much your willings to spend as once you've attacked the shell its starts to get very expensive, you could loose a good 25kg by ditching the anvil in the front and using an alloy version of the block.
Using rally/race spec parts will also help reduce the weight, a TR30R turbo for example only weighs 12lbs but is rather expensive. WRC calipers are nice and light, magnesium wheels, diff casings etc also help to reduce weight. Areoquip have the startlite range and using silver wire instead of copper allows for a thinner lighter loom, but in all seriousness unless you have a race team budget it would probably be easier to just start with a lighter ford like a mk1 escort
After that
Find a set of magnesium wheels, some WRC calipers as these only weight around 2kgs instead of thetend to be 1kg lessll depened onAll depends on hows

Nash,
Mine does still have all glass windows & a cage (but dont mention the cage to Chip ).
Will be gettin poly windows soon "ish", gotta sort engine & mappin first, then roof !!
I know there's more weight to be saved, I jus gotta get the time to hop on it !!

I was just interested to know how much it weighed while still having glass and a cage ontop tbh bud.
Will be interested to see how light it is once you have done all the other mods.

My Sapph weighs 1118kgs with about five litres of fuel in it. But I'm about to go lighter wheels, removal of ABS, removal of brake servo. So it will end up around 1100kgs.
Unfortunately I'm a fat bastard so with me the car weighs 1218kgs!
