Self adjusting maps?
ok you have slow coverage and rapid learn for the ecu to tune itself then basic closed loop and open

then you have the afr table for it to read from

ignition same again

then you use the ecus datalogger to read engine noise then update the figures to this and add 10%

SteveH- the most important thing to bear in mind is 95% of todays aftermarket ECU's are basing themselves on strategies that were in OEM ECU's in the 80's.. we're talking 20 years ago.. yes, the crap that is out there today is already 20 years out of date..
So copying crap stuff that is copying 20yr old tech isn't truly a great idea

Thanks jay, I undertstand a little of those screenshots!
Yeah i've got a tiny budget, its a bit backyard, especially trying to retrofit spark creep into MS, but i'm up for it. Just need several engines to break now haha

if i was starting again id get a rst with efi manifold and learn on that as there cheap to repair or get another engine compared to a snotworth but i havnt had one let go yet

what i plan on doing is getting either chip or alex over so i can vidoe the live changes as they happen to prove the point when i get my car together
Fuel tuning is a linear line relationshio to air mass so many breakpoints are not needed.
Spark adance behaves like a logarithmic curve (sort off) so more breakpoints the better..

Yep, I'm gonna have to read stus articles again.

THANK you silky, you are, of course, more than entitled to your opinions about tabetha/anyone, I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if he/she (sorry but is is a girls name) knows anything about the subject. Just like Jim is entitled to his opinion about you, but my main point is THANKS for offering him to PM you, rather than slug anything out on my thread.
Thats the way things should be done IMHO.
PS if you quote this ^ message and reply to it you are gay.
Now, more info/conversation/explanation needed please!! Jay, I dont completely follow the pics you posted, could you possibly elaborate a little, and maybe anotate your pics. I understand mapping theory, but having not done it myself (and wanting to give it a go) I would like some more info. Even if you break it down to simpleton terms to begin with, at least I will learn from the ground up..
Many thanks again, I'm loving this thread! Wheres stu when you need him!!??
Steve
From a programming point of view, I guess it depends how good you are at writing programs and algorithms. ECUs of today use various sensors and then calculate how much fuel etc is needed based on readings they get. Anything and everything is programmable, just depends how much programming you want to do!
P.S. Programming C and C++ does my head in enough never mind ECU programming!

I just want to learn by doing. As much help as stus tech articles are (and others tech posts) it doesnt make me better at anything. I might be better informed, and less likely to go wrong though, so of course they are invaluable, but I cant read something and claim to know what i'm on about with it
Steve
Looking at algorithms too, oh god its all coming back
