I'm surprised you're surprised. That's sounds like a typical trade-in deal to me.

TBF that ZS would sell for around 3k having seen a few go in the last few weeks at that money if it is as described. But still think the offer of £1250 is what should be expected.

Never got why someone would expect anything other than a low offer for a trade in, the garage has to make money to stay in business??

The only way you will get a decent price is if you are paying top whack for the new car, and or doing finance, this gives the garage some scope to earn money out of the deal.

Went to one place years back, like motor nations or something, my car was worth 2k as a trade in TOPS, they offered my 3k !!! The reason for this was that the car they were selling was around 2k over the normal price garage price and they insisted that I would have to take finance for the car with them in order to be able to take my car as a trade in??

The car they were selling was a nail, they said, and I quote "dont look at the condition, we will sort all the dents, scratches, bold tyres, filthy interior etc, and don't look at the price, we will sort something out"

LOL, what was I supposed to look at???

I left quickly!!

especially when youre paying the finance percentage on top like so many people do. Price sounds bang on in my opinion and the 02 zetec s is only 2295 at most really so he needs to earn a living (traders have overheads)

1250 + 70 to valet it, Then advertising to get some nob come and give 2k. Traders are having a bad time at the mo and that will reflect in the prices they offer for youre used cars.

Then he has to warrenty the car aswell. There aint that much in it when you think that way

It amazes me why people complain that a large engined turbo performance car uses lots of fuel.

If they were proper fast i would have accepted it but it wasnt..Trying to take it easy going to work & back ect just pottering around it was still terrible on fuel
I had a civic type r & when you drove it nice off v tec it was great on fuel & when it was on v tec it wasnt that much slower than the focus.
I would have another civic anyday over a focus st.

My avensis 1.8 petrol gives me a whopping 48mpg average for the week!!

And it's STILL worth 3 grand less that I paid for it 6 months ago.... Thats the thing with newer cars, they drop like rocks! The only way around it is to keep them for fucking years! I plan on letting the missus have her stupid people carrier when the USA returns to the moon That way I'll have had my money's worth out the Avensis

I'll still piss the rest of my money away keeping some shonky Ford on the go right enough so it's all relative

I would have an ST3 over a rattly horrid CVH engined tin can ANY day of the week.... , I don't see how people can knock ST's, they are a great hot hatch, so nice to drive and with all the options a fucking nice car IMHO, with LOTS of tuning potential. The only thing letting them down is wrong wheel drive

going back to the Road tax thing, say for example you have a year 2002 WRX. The engine lets itself go and you replace it with an engine from a year 2000 WRX. If the section 7.3 of the MOT testers manual is still valid, when doing an emisson test on a vehicle with an older engine, it is to be tested at the year of the engine is to be taken into account and tested on that.
Having proven to the MOT tester of the year, would it be fair to assume that once DVLA are aware of the engine year, could it in theory be eligible for the lower road tax band?

7.3 of tester manual:

Test according to which is older, engine or vehicle.
e.g. A 1995 car fitted with a 1991 engine (of whatever make), test to 1991 standards for emission purposes.

Note: The onus is on the vehicle presenter
to prove engine age.

i love s1's as well but only cause they're a true classic in my eyes
a decent st would cane the arse off 1 imho
but then it should its got 20 years technology on its side
as for the s3 being a performance car, i think they're 1 of the biggest let downs ever, and again a st would kick the ass of a s3

drove a few and my mate has owned one since new and ive gotta admit i was dissapointed.

dont think they are fast and as someone has already said the drive is at the wrong wheels.

cant believe they are just hotting one up and calling it a focus RS

ST will never compete with the evo and the scooby that it tries to.

dont mean to offend any owners. just my opinion

S3 was also a let down. as westus 1 says

No offence taken. !

The ST has never tried to compete with the EVO or scooby !!!
Anyone who even tries to compare them hasnt a clue what an ST is !

As for fast, 150mph out of the factory and easy to get 270 bhp with a simple remap !

Yes its driving the wrong wheels but it isnt a rally car !

WIll always prefer my escos for what it was but the ST is a fantastic daily driver car.

Taken from a website this year.

Available from November, the new Subaru Impreza 2.5 WRX turbo will cost a remarkable £19,995 on-the-road

The Focus ST is on sale from 1 May with prices starting at £18,250.

Seperate websites but in my opinion price is important and 1750 is not a lot to add for a 4wd better handling car with just as much if not more tuning potential.

Still lose as much money though lol.

for a daily driver i suppose the focus st is a nice car just wanted it to be so much better than it is thats all.

Longed for it to be the next escos if im honest. If it was i would have put my name down strieght away.
