also did you 'run in' the new cam. New lifters should be fitted at the same time as well.

it may just be because its new, it 'should' settle down the more miles you do.

let us know what happens with the rattling noise mate as I'm fitting a new cam and lifters next week and I also get paranoid about engine noises

No, the cam and followers are now dead and the bits that have worn off them are now chewing up the crank bearings and oil pump. Give it another 50 miles and the engine won't run at all once the valves stop opening so the problem will go away.

What ever sort of cock are you?? Is that your technical diagnosis? You have obviously made the poor guy shit a brick with the fact that you have jumped to a conclusion.

Surely you aren't THE Puma Racing?? If so, that reply has so seriously changed my opinion of you and to think that you were on my list of people who seemed to know a bit about Ford tuning.

I would imagine that its a bit of air trapped in one of the lifters, which will clear. James, dont panic yet!! Have you tried it today?

ello

was it noisy straight away as soon as it was started it or did it start quiet then get noisy?

did they fit retaining bar back in behind the cam wheel? and is the belt tight enough for it not to jump a tooth and you could check it's still timed correctly (it's not piston contact)

cheers

Daniel

Steve, thats a bit harsh!! (about Karl I mean!!)

I have spent some time reading the information on the Puma Racing website and had quite a high opinion from what I had seen. I even considered him for headwork.

But to come out with such a firm negative diagnosis based on the very limited information provided and without seeing the car is just wrong IMO.

Ran the car today! was noisey but after 2 miles cleared right up! so gave it what its good for! then about 22miles down the road ...the tapping was back! let car cool down and all that got what i had to get done!

few hours later started the car back up!...and it was there noise! tap tap tap! real high pitch! then drove it a few miles and it went again! then just as i pulled up at home it was back! really starting to do my face in!!

it could well be the lifters mate, I've heard of some peoples that took about 400 miles to fully settle & fill with oil.

hope ya get it sorted mate. I would say if you were truely worried about it just pop it back to where it was done, sure they will check it over to see all is well.
If that option is available to ya?
