ive sold my car and the guy is coming with cash whats the best way to find out if the money is ok because hes not coming till night

 

technically you should ring the issuing bank and give them the serial number of the draft to confirm its real.....but 99% are legit

 

As said get thye seriel number of the draft,and the full details of the bank and the seller and confirm ones been issued by them and who its been made payable too. Even then though, its not 100% but gives you a little piece of mind at least.

I always insist on cash for cars though as drafts can still be fake no matter how many checks you do, but if i were you id do all the checks first and then pay it in before letting the car go so the banker has a chance of spotting if its fake.

The only real safe way is cash. But only as long as you can spot a fake note.

 

instead of a bankers draft insist on a bank transfer if the other person is registered for phone banking they could transfer the money while you fill out the paperwork and it will be in your bank within minutes as long as your banks are part of the fastrack system which most banks are now part of i did this recently when selling my car recently

 

The problem comes if it is fake iirc, you stick it in the bank, but a few days later, it turns out to be fake and you have lost your car.

As suggested, call the bank with the issue number, hopefully them may be able to confirm that they have issues it and so good chance it is ok. The only problem is if he comes at night and the banks are closed.

See how you feel about him, does he look dodgy i know its not always the case but most people trying to buy a car with fake money will be shifty and just give you a bad feeling sort of thing.

Ive sold 100 cars and only had 1 batch of fakes and never had a fake draft. Go to youre bank with him to pay it in before you relese the car if you can do it during the day and you feel that worried.

I think he is thinking you may be over panicking.

wouldn't fret to much mate, just check the cash is cosha, if poss get a pen, but other than that have a good look at them and see how you feel about the bloke.

Ideally get your misses to check the cash while you talk to him so that you dont feel under pressure whilst checking it.
