the P8 has been completely reverse engineered and can be reconfigured to be live mappable by ordinary laptop by RP Lab
there may be more L8's in the ford world as the 4x4 sapph was the big seller, but the P8 is used in many things italian and is very common in certain circles (including lots of motorbikes)

how much does this cost do you know

I seem to remember that the RP labs L8 was about £800 + VAT + the cost of getting an L8 in the first place.
I would assume that the P8 version would be more money ??????
(The unmodified P8 is more expensive to start with)
However, these are hardly the same as the original versions ECU's !!!!
You can buy cheaper brand new products now with better functionality.
If anything in this post is wrong or inaccurate , I will stand corrected.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
ok i have a question about mapping
how can a good map from different tuners make your car run better?
is it a case of
1 tuner will run more advance, the other less, more/less timing, fueling.............
and the best combination makes the car run better?
so could make a large difference to the running of the car?
next question, whos best at mapping level8?
and through mapping on a l8 is there a way of making more hp and limiting the torque?
to a degree of course

as for not being the same as the original version's ecus - all of the hardware is the same OEM quality but with the addition of a different 'babyboard' to allow them to be connected to a laptop via a serial port for live mapping using the supplied software.
as for P8s being more expensive than L8s, i'm not sure that is the case everywhere in europe

i have now got an MSD level 1 ecu chip for my t34 greys spec and runs perfect
i beleive many over spend on the ecu thinking that it costs alot so must be better, you need to look at your requirements and i have concluded level 1 is perfect for me application

basically theyre just filling out large tables for ignitiona and fueling. one tuner might put in different values to another for a variety of different reasons this will ofcourse affect how the car runs.
for example you take an off the shelf stage3 bayjoo chip and compare it to a similar livemap from one of the guys off her like MSD, TS, NMS, SCS setc. and the off she shelf one will likely produce more power yet be much safer.
this isnt necessarily because ahmed bayjoo is a crap mapper, far from it. its that hes decided that these were the most appropriate for the application.
ofcourse there are some tools out there who dont havea fookin clue what theyre doing too

I bought a L8 for my Westy for reliabilty.
Not just reliability of the ECU but I wanted to go on coilpacks and have lambda controlled fueling for ease of use and long term reliability.
I also went for an MSD chip though. Stu is the man

it's not necessarily the values in the main table that make the difference - it's more about tuning the correction factors so that it drives well at all temperatures and all transient conditions that you encounter on the road throughout the year
