What’s always puzzled me is how you can have more power and better fuel consumption?
To make more power don’t you need to burn more fuel

A few basic facts as I understand them.....

A deisel engines power output is directly proportional to fuel available. (to a fill limit of the cylinder)

As unlike petrol engines, you do NOT need to maintain an AFR as such.

You do need sufficient air to burn all the fuel injected to make power or you just get smoke and power loss.

As diesels are high compression and long stroked, so their RPM limit is much lower.

Lower RPM limits = lower BHP.

Due to the long stroke, you get lots of leverage = MORE TORQUE

Timing of the injectors is also key, much like ignition timing on a petrol car, so its not just how much fuel you inject, but also when.
