Default dangerous driving caution? UPDATED impersonating a police officer!! 06/07/10

I was driving off of a dual carridge way irland about an hour ago (two lanes)

a volvo was in front of me in out side lane, nothing on inside lane, got to 60 and he wouldnt move, I flashed, he still wouldnt move, I'll admitt it peed me off a lil bit so flashed again, still wouldnt move then a car is in front of the volvo doing 50 and it gets even slower.

I pull into the the inside lane to get onto slip rd pulling off and he follows me down the slip and he does so to fast and has to pull to the right as he nearly went up my arse!

I drive off of the slip onto a built up area rd doing 25/30 and he follows me 5 rds so I give him trhe wanker sign as I think he wants to give it loads.

I stop get out my car and so does he and I se his off duty copper (not in his civies)

He tells me I was driving dangerously and over the speed limit but he cant back up the speed but is going to caution me on dangerous driving?!

I tell hiom he's the one driving dangerously as he nearly went up the back of me then hes says that was my fault as I braked dangerously, WTF!?

He takes my details and says I'll get a court sumons in the post and I can argue it in court.

I've never got any point nor even been pulled befor, and I know he is in the wrong on this!

am I gona get skrewed or will I be able to fight this?

opinions please, Kev.

Dont give anyone your details mate.. (unless you've had an accident)

If he is off duty, hes just a person.. so you dont have to give him the time of day, surely?

Coppers are never off duty, they just sometimes don't wear uniform and aren't being paid.

Ref;
"I stop get out my car and so does he and I se his off duty copper (not in his civies) "

Was he wearing uniform, if not did he show I.D.?
Did you get his Reg number and his Police number?

Are you sure you haven't given your details to a complete, non Police stranger?

If you do hear, go to court and call his wife to give evidence, if he decides to change his version of what happened from what you are saying, he will have to convince his wife to lie in court.

Fight it mate, i have just got off a dangerous driving charge due to "law" as the judge put it.
Dangerous driving is driving that falls FAR below the standard of a competant driver and that percieved by a competant driver.
Also dangerous driving is a crown court affair, ie judge and jury, as in the worst case carries a prison sentence but that is rare, specially as yours sounds very contraversial.
The copper sounds like he had a bad day, IF the summons comes through, just find a good brief, and you will be fine.

you need to make a complaint to the duty officer if you feel he was driving dangerously

well after reading feedback off of forum members here and other forums I had a chat with a couple of mates on the phone and decided to go to the local police station and put a complaint in against the officer

Got to the local police station and it was closed, pressed button on the wall and spoke with an officer who heard briefly what I was there for and then the door of the police station opened with the police station sergeant there to greet me

I explained to the officer what had happend and he was gob smacked and also said that first thought it wouldn't have been an officer as all police in that area wear black t-shirts now now the whites

he also rang the other area police stations to investigate if there were officers there with Gold Volvo's, which there wasn't, the police say he hadn't a leg to stand on if it was a police man but they are assuming it was a Prison Officer impersonating a Police Officer and they aint impressed also they say they cant realy investigate the prison to see who drives that car, its OK I said, I have access to all west midlands prisons as I work in most of them as a Drugs Counsellor, to this they were chuffed and will now be working with me to find how who this idiot was/is.

I feel so much better and the police sergeant at the station made me feel very wellcome and settled me down again as I was well pissed at the situ.

this idiot picked the wrong person the pretend with today! lol

Bit of an odd one that - personally I deffo wouldn't have given the guy my details - if I was certain it wasn't an on duty copper (you mentioned wife/kids in the car?) then I would have either 'disappeared' or just driven straight to the nearest open nick and see what they had to say then...

Out of interested, what area of Brum was this? What make of Volvo was it?

The Sergeant says it realy doesn't matter about my details tbh as I have now taken it to the police if anything were to happen it will make it easier for the sergant the throw the book at him

I also run my own ford forum and tbh most member know my address and name and D.O.B so it isnt the end of the world

its south Birmingham, this happened on the A38

only pic I can find of a gold volvo buy sure it was like that lol

Majority of West Mids bobbies still wear white shirts fella. Although not technically on duty, ie, at work, a police officer is never really 'off duty'. Hence we can drop in the smelly stuff discipline wise 24 hours a day.

In this case I would just ignore the idiot
