Default Help !!! how do i get a locking wheel nut off without a key ???

I had a flat tyre on my van last week. Not a problem as the spare is underneith on my vivaro. I slid under the van to see the tyre is blown up and like new, fantastic.

Only problem is, the cage that held up the spare is held up with 2 wheel nuts, 1 is normal, one is locking. I dont have the key !!!

I had to ring my m8 that came down in his vivaro, i tried his key in my nut, but it didnt work, so i used his spare to get home.

How am i going to get that locking nut off ???

Please help !!!

You can get attachments that have a reverse thread on them. Probably from Halfords?

Or just smash the shit out of it with chisel.

Reverse Thread.

Hammer/Chisel.

Weld a nut on.

The choice is yours I chose number 3 after the other 2 failed miserably!

i cant whack a socket on to it, cos its one of them with a squiggle pattern in the nut.

Hammer and chisle ??? thats a bit like a medieval pikey !!!

i will try get a reverse thread thing, i take it you drill one of these in and when you drill it out it bites and unscrews the nut ???

find a socket that is a bit smaller than the nut and hammer it on , this will shape the nut to the inside of the socket and this will give it enough grip to undo

the outside of the nut is smooth and perfectley round. the locking key would have a pattern in it what fits inside the pattern in the nut, i cant hammer a scoket on it.

doesn't matter if its round, belt a slightly smaller socket onto it.have done it before a couple of times.

i got this type off with a socket !

as long as the socket is smaller and a very tight fit it will deform the nut and re-shape it to the same shape as the inside of the socket , this gives it enough grip

you wont be getting the nut out in a hurry once its off though so use an old socket

can even do the type that have an outer collar that just spins , use a chisel to form a couple of fairly deep V's into in then whack on a smaller socket - job done

i have this prob at my garage all the time , if the outer diameter doesnt move hammer a multi hex socket on , then keep hammering the bar while turning it . if the outer spins like on later fords you have to weld a bolt to it then put two nuts on the thread lock them together , this has worked lots for me

if its the spinning outer type i spot weld the outer collar to the inner part then whack a tight fitting socket over it,works a treat.
