If it makes any odds, we once used lemonade to top up the power steering fluid.

We were somewhere between inverness and aberdeen... it did work, but spewed a thick white paste everywhere once it got hot. Quick fix though.

Lee, couldnt you find the 710 cap?

anyway, in our old drift shitter, i run normal 20/50 engine oil in the ps tank, as it was thicker, so made more pressure, so sped up the self centring action of the steering wheel.

but that was a Ł300 total peice of shit that no one cared about, not a shiney porsche

I haven't read the thread but know a bit about this from working on ships with hydraulics and having a cadet put multigrade in the Bow Thruster hydralics.

If the oil is synthetic you will be fine. The steering may feel different and lumpy due to the different viscositys of the separate fluids, but any specific seals will not be affected if it's a synthetic oil.

50 miles should not be a problem, although a complete new charge of hydraulic fuild will be needed.

In our case that was 6800 litres. A bargain at 85 quid for 205 litres

Is it a customer of yours Maria?

Sorry but how do you mistake the power steering reservoir for the engine oil cap? Especially after you've owned the car for ages!

the problem here is the viscosities, oh an dthe fact that there is no fookin drain plug on the pas !!

it will whine for ages, until after loads of oil changes you have managed to remove the engine oil, no long term damage though.

1. I'm a cunt
2. It was dark
3. I've NEVER put oil in it
4. I've only open the boot to look at engine ONCE before
5. I was talking on the phone and flapping like a seagull at the time
6. I am a cunt
7. Look at the pic! not exactly like a normal engine bay is it!

Its VERY common mistake apparently.... (for cunts)

Oil on the far right... the one I put in in also says oil clearly and is straight in front of you when you open boot... It looks like an oil cap... it came off like an oil cap!!! so I filled it with oil

As I said... I'm not the first and I wont be the last!

So.... it was dark, he was flustered and put it in the wrong hole?

My missus wouldn't accept that for an excuse!

What's wrong with it if I may ask?

And somebody came in to a place I was doing work experience at one summer with a 996 911 Turbo and wanted to check the oil. Fapping about looking for a dipstick then by chance I looked in the owners manual and found it on the on board display. Stupid method imo. Would you trust a computer or visibly see it for yourself?

Maybe it's because it has a dry sump?
