Can you lock 2 nuts together and use that to unscrew the stud?

Why do you want to remove them? If its to get machining done then get the machine shop to do it for you.

thats what i've tried mate, put the first nut upside down so the flats are together and used the spanner on the bottom nut to remove the studs.
but both nuts are just turning and not the stud. should i tighten the nuts together more or will it damage threads??
i did tighten fairly tight.

yes tighten the nuts together more, use normal nuts and they will strip before you damage the stud as the studs a lot tougher.

Or you could, if its going to machine shop to be decked let them do it.

Cheers

yes mate they widely used, and the most widely used method of removing them is to lock 2 nuts together as mentioned and undo using bottom nut, will only work if you tighten the nuts up tight.....something your not doing if theyre spinning together.

If you use a normal pair of nuts (not the ARP nuts) then they wont damage the thread at all no matter how hard you tighten them...as they'll strip well before damaging the head studs.

Get some muscle into it and they'll come off

Cheers

Put a spring washer between the two nuts,or use a nyloc on the top nut.
