Default One for the pf builders

Whats the best option for sorting this out?

My drive had a flower bed about 1.25m by 5m and 15cm deeper than the rest of the concrete, so is just dirt under the X crazy paving i filled it with as a temp ( 4 years ) job.

A. costs getting it done
B. costs doing it myself

what do you want to do with it to sort it out? only you will know whats underneath the c razy paving but its likely itll be soil. a ton bag of sand £30-£40 and few bags of cement £5 each to concrete it up wont cost to much but if your a penpusher the hard work in mixing it with a shovel might be to much for you. break up the crazy paving with a big hammer to use as a hardcore base.
or to return to a flower bed a ton of top soil would fill it up.

Depends how nice you want it to look ???
You aint matching up to much ,so if its just to stick the car on then bosch some concrete in there,if your only going to walk on it ,Flag it ,or if you want to look at it ,put a flower bed back in,,,,only you would know what you want.

basically concrete it then. Her cars normally parked there, so not used as a flower bed

as said under the loose crazy paving is just dirt.

and im not a pen pusher, just a lazy person

if the dirts only 6" deeper than the rest of the drive, do i need to remove abit more? as in go deeper?

Im thinking break up some of the crazy pving into smaller lumps, then mix up some concrete (should beable to borrow a mixer) and pour it in?

that would do the job. 6 inches is more than enough for a cars weight.i wouldnt expect the rest of the drive to be any more than 3 or 4 inches deep.

Been years but is it about, ratios that is

0.5L water
1kg cement
2kg sand
4kg gravel

seem to have that in my head? Do i need gravel if im just going to use the crazy paving?

2 to 1 mix of sand and cement sounds maybe a bit much alhtough it wouldobviously be stronger. 3 to 1 (possibly 4 to 1?)would be upto the job and a little cheaper. wont need the gravel if your going to break up the crazy paving. the amount of water ? i dont know in litre form but just by eye to the right consistancy.

3 mtrs * 2mtrs * 0.1mtrs took me approx 2 ton of sand and gravel mix to lay a couple of weeks back as a quick guide with no hard core in it!

break up the crazy paving as much as you can and then lay the concrete over the top, job done

Idealy you would want to take a bit out mate, I would for for 4-6 inchs of hardcore compacted, then 4 inchs of concrete on top.

As for the mix, if you get it from readymix etc then just explain to them what its for and they will sort you out. You prob wont get that little amount tho.

I would mix at 3 sand 3 stone 1 cement as for the small amount you have to do, I am sure you could stretch to a couple bags of cement.

Also, there is a difference in colour with different makes of cement

Blue Circle is lighter, and the other which I cant remember is called but bradfords sell it, is a darker colour, they have recently changed the bradfords cement so its a little lighter.

Hope that makes sense.

Remember, do it right first time, as having to break it up and do it all again is just annoying.

Also, higher a mixer. For the small amount it would cost it would save you some serious work

Or get a mini digger in, rip the lot up, and do a proper job would make a hell of a difference to your property, obviously if you dont own your property, then Dont bother
