I think we need to maintain a 1/4 mile record table, so comparative facts are on-hand...

My mam found an old redline magazine at work a few weeks back, she brought it home (thief!)

Anyway, there was a few cars in it. A 400bhp fwd golf. '''the quickest fwd car in the uk''', goes the headline.
60ft=1.6 sec
300ft =4.5
1,000ft 8.9
1/4 = 10.667 +132. mph.

PS=thats without nitrous!!!!!!

Audi a3 1.8t lump in the golf.

I can't see why a fiesta or a mk4 escort can't do these times. They just need an engine that can put out 400 bhp.

i think what your doing is what most other ford guys do and look at the power

the most important bit your missing there is the 1.6 60ft time, now that takes some doing in a fwd car, my best ever was 1.83 and thats on drag slicks so to do a 1.6 is very fast off the line, a 1.6 time is looking at under 4secs to 60mph

Bear in mind that wasnt run in road legal trim though, that was on slicks.

isn't gaz'd car just lots of power and some good tyres i.e no real time or effort spent on suspension for extra traction?
can't remember his spec

just a few more bits of info for you all, the car does 60ft in around 2 secs and does 100mph at the 1/8 mile marker in 7.7 secs!

The suspension isn't standard, but hasn't got any more complicated bits than most fast fords have. I'm pretty sure it's just coilovers and adjustable top mounts!

He's got reasonable aftermarket suspension on it etc, but nothing too fancy.

How fast is the Corsa without the gas then please ?
Also how many FWD Fords have you seen with 150+bhp of nitrous racing up the strip then ? I've not seen one .
I saw the corsa run the 11.5 sec on saturday at the Pod and it's using gas for the whole run , it would run 13's without the gas most likely .

13.2 is their quickest without the nitrous that Ive seen them run.

Not really much point asking about the time for a nitrous car without nitrous though, its like asking what the 11.6 second tigra (turbo no gas) would run without the boost

Not bad then , a 13.2 without the gas is pretty usefull .
Not as fast as the old mk1/2 Ford Escort pintos and they haven't even got gas

Ive not seen any fwd converted mk1/2 escort pintos yet, have you got details, or are you talking about comparing a rwd car with a fwd car?

i'm sure if the corsa was rwd it would be faster... but once again, its not a fair comparison

Suprisingly the fastest GM front wheel drive cars, are actually quicker than any drag escort is, but they tend to be chevvy cobalts not corsas, and are not road legal.

They do 0-200 in 6 seconds though, which is pretty quick IMHO

There's been a few mk1 fiestas with old x-flow 1.7 litre engines that run 13.2 - 13.5's (without gas) knocking about . I've not seen any 2 litres as yet but i'm sure a sorted 2 litre mk1/2 fiesta etc could run as quick as the corsa no sweat .

This will depend on it's 0-60 foot time really . A sorted fwd car can run a great 0-60 foot and match a rwd motor . The Corsa in question is very, very good off the line and really flys off the start .

LOTS of people have tried, they've just all failed.

Ive seen plenty of fords on the drag strip who have spent more money than that corsa and they arent anywhere close to it.

He runs 1.9s at best, typically 2.0-2.1

That is NOT a great 60ft time for a rwd car.

You are (as per all your other posts) talking shit of course.

shut it vauxhall queen , because the truth hurts you have to start causing grief .
Anyway 1.9-2 sec 0-60 foots are good , even a rwd car on street rubber struggles to beat that .

perhaps you have a perception problem

we're saying a fiesta, escort or ka could easily do this if somebody bothered to try

That 1.999 (call it 2 secs then ) is a good 0-60 foot for a rwd car on street rubber and the same as the FWD corsa is doing

with better tyres and some coilovers i reckon i could have easily been in the 12's. unfortunately my best was 13.121 @ 107mph, only 315bhp in a fully trimmed saff too

i want 1.5 60 foots in my escos

Ok can someone please answer the following for me :
The corsa can run 13.2 sec (without gas) at Santa Pod on street tyres or slicks ?
The corsa can run 11.5 secs at Santa pod with 150+ bhp of gas on slicks or street tyres ?
Thanks and no stropey answers from Chip .

Well if that's true can we see a pic of the Viva then ?
Just for your information the hardest launching Harris pinto mk1/2 escorts rarely do 1.5sec 0-60 foots EVEN on Hoosier slicks yet alone street rubber . The fastest street rubber 0-60 foots are around 1.8 secs usually
