right, im seriously wanting to start doing track days but i dont want to use a car i need daily for the obvious reasons so i want to build a track specific car. Nothing special but something thats going to handle well and be able to shift reasonably too.
i bought a 1.1 saxo the other day that i highly doubt will pass an MOT without a few hundred quids work, and im currently driving the mrs' ford Ka so one of the two will be the daily runabout to get to work and one will be my track car.
The Ka ive been driving for a few months now is tbh its a great wee car, decent on fuel and honestly handles superbly, but its developed a few noises recently that mean i'll need to strip bits down and look for problems.
The saxo will need a few quids work anyways but the last one i drove (also a 1.1) handled reasonably well and i know the VTS engine is a decent base to start tuning from.
So, thats my 2 options, as i said im not looking for a 10 second motor, i want something i can spend a few quid on over a while and turn into a fun motor that both handles well, and goes well too.
what i would do to both cars;
Ka - EFI CVH Turbo engine (or 2l zetec, both conversions relatively easy) fully stripped (i imagine i could drop it to 650/700KG), possibly a half cage at later date. RS2000 or cossie front brakes and focus rear disks. then take it from there
Saxo - VTS engine, Brake upgrade and again fully stripped. possibly a half cage at later date. then again take it from there.
I know my stuff with Fords, the saxo would be a bit more of a lesson but what would you go for and why? any idea on rough costs for the saxo?
