Clio 172- Anyone had any experience?
As above, has anyone owned/driven one of these?
Would they be an ideal car to start getting a little more serious about gaining track experience in with minimal mods including stripping and cage?
Anything to look out for in particular?
Cheers

i like mine, only just had it,
they have a few little issues, like the wiring under the seat makes the airbag light come on, and the throttle cables and body make it tickover high, so nothing major
mine was doing 41mpg all the way from oxford to cardiff last friday, which is quite awesome
they pretty quick though i not hammered mine yet as the baby has been in the car all the time.
but it's not as quick as my 205 on the way home from rallyday on sayturday, i raced one, and i passed and pulled away from it, on the private test track aroudn 135, it was no where near my back bumper

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Significantly better than the R5.
Advantage of the 172 is throttle cable rather than fly by wire.
Remember on the 172 cup theres no ABS and because of that insurance is more expensive.
Cambelts are expensive- needs the top end every 36k and normal cambelt every 72k.

Mate bought his missus a 172Cup years back and he ended up driving it more than his own tweeked Imprezza WRX.
Never been a fan of French cars but I have to admit from my spin behind the wheel it felt very positive. Build still feels pants but so much fun. The only issue he had in 3 years was a broken engine mount which Renault did under warantee (after failing to identify the knocking noise and coming up with more ingenious fob offs for it).
