Default Help info on engine change

Thinking caps on guys please......just changed engine in escort van turbo diesel to turbo diesel with intercooler(if relevant) but it wont start off the key.....ignition lights come on but it wont turn over

any ideas

i assumed you changed the ECU? maybe the key is coded to the ECU? immobilizer problem?....just guessing here

Don't know exactly what years they did it but aren't some diesel fuel pumps coded to the ecu?
Shouldn't stop it turning over though, I would have thought.

good thinking, i know the later ford models, transits, focus etc have the pumps coded, but as you say, it shouldnt stop it from turning over

I had the same problem on a different project, i'd bolted the earth to the live on the starter motor school boy.

Y reg guys 2001 i tried the ecu from the donor car but still the same............is the key immobiliser coded to the ecu ?

if i put 12v to the starter it turns over just not from the key

I would say you need the ignition switch and key and ECU and Pump all from the same vehicle, otherwise it's a trip to Ford to get the PATS immobiliser reconfigured.
