Default £20 fine for not switching off your engine...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ffic-jams.html

cant and wont happen.

perhaps rather than looking into ways of penalising people, they should look to improve the roads / public transport systems.

wtf! will be be strict guildlines for how long your car has to be stationary???

cant be good on your petrol or engine constantly turnging it on and off to crawl 10 or so metres?! silly idea imo, if you are stuck in miles of traffic its common sense to cut ya engine, to save fuel, leave it to the driver to make the descision, not some 'warden'.

what about a poous the ecu decides when to switch the engine off, if the batteries are dead it will run the engine to charge them, will they fine you if this is the case
by the time he is half way through writing the ticket and being bored to death with the complex explanation of the hybrid system, the ecu will have shut the engine off

I was going to put something constructive and grown up but that would be against the current trend in the UK so I'll put this instead:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA!!

Well thought out (not!) . What about in the winter when you have four people in the car and the inside steams up, so when you restart the engine, you can't move until the screen is clear, otherwise they will then do you for driving without due care and attention .

Absolutely ludicrous.

Traffic wardens will be able to issue the penalties - after a warning - in a bid to cut down on pollution.
Well if a traffic warden has enough time to warn you and then come back again and fine you, I guess you have been sat there ages in that instance.

I agree with Mike about the winter, but I cant see many traffic wardens standing next to your car for 20 mins in winter to make sure its running the whole time

Doh!!! I'm moving to shoreham-by-sea next month and my RS Ka has a habit of not turning back on once its been turned off unless you go wiggle all the sensors.

I belive that currently in scotland you can be finned for 'idling' when in a car park. I said no way, but my mate assures me its true.

JAmes.

Also of note:

Rule 123 of the Highway Code says: 'If the vehicle is stationary and likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should switch off the engine to reduce emissions and oil pollution.

'However, it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic.'
So basically it DOESNT apply to people sat in traffic, only people who have chosen to park their car up at the side of the road and wait (while the other half pops into a brothel or whatever)

So you are all getting worked up over nothing just cause of emotive wording from the daily mail

Idling is an offence yes. You have to leave the car though.

you can't leave the car running if you aren't inside it as a friendly copper was about to do me for it one day when i popped my head out the window to ask him a question "don't get out the car or i'll do you for leaving it unattended with the engine running" so i drove about for a while polluting the atmosphere while looking for the address i was parked outside of the whole time

and how can they prove you had the engine running? are they going to wear helmet cams?

Does that mean you cant get out your car in a car park with the engine on to stick your head under the bonnet if you've got a problem?

WHAT A JOKE! America and china are the worst for co2`s by far and they dont give a sh!t but if we turn our engines of for a few mins we will save the world, What a load if sh!te, So a old lady in a 1.0 micra has to turn there engine off while a fat yank in his 5.0 yank tank can do as he wishes pfft. Just another way to fine the motorist.

Didnt know that, but something interesting/rubbish i found out recently was that the 1 series doesnt charge the battery unless your on overrun (i think) in order to reduce CO2 emmissions. Meaning if you only do short journeys the battery will be flat all of the time. An old guy I know is having endless problems with it.
