just been to the burger wagon up the road and saw 2 really fat coppers standing around before tucking into their sarnies
both about 5 foot 6 or so, both probably looking at wearing 40 inch belts and one had probably the good part of 6 inches of fat slipping over the belt straining his shirt buttons, probably the only thing that was keeping them both in was the stab vests otherwise they would have both been spilling out of their uniforms
one male, one female, finished their food, then got intot he motor and screamed it off down the road blues and twos going
thing is, there is no way they would have been able to aprehend a villian on foot, i'm not particulalry healthy but i reckon i could have walked away from these 2 and they couldn't have caught me had i been a miscreant wanted by the force
seeing as you have to be fit and pass a test to join the army and be a fireman, do you have to pass the same sort of tests to be ome a copper?
and these aren't one off's either, i come to work of a morning and there are always 4 or 5 police vehicles parked up along the side of the road with the bobbies stuffing their faces with food in the morning at 6am, at least there isn't any crime happening in that neck of the woods, but these 2 this morning could have passed for clancy and mrs clancy wiggum from the simpsons![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)

while im at it,
there was a MASSIVE hoo ha up here not that long ago when some fat cunt fireman lost his job as he was overweight and unfit for the job. The unions went fucking mental and the brigade were fucked over and think had to reinstate him. So whats the fucking point in having stringent entry criteria to become a fireman yet once you're in you can do what you like?
Boils my fucking piss!

Seems to be less & less fat uns nowadays. But once you have passed your two year probation then no more fitness tests. Unless you are riot trained, then its a very brief fitness test every year.

hello i dont know anyone one here but thought id put my 2p worth in.... i myself am just about to move and start my police training... in this area (cant say for other regions) they are very very picky about health in general and any existing or previous medical condtions! also the fitness tests i had to do i would say that the average "gym goer" would probably struggle with and alot of people fail apparantly. i havent seen any overweight officers in that region tbh. i would consider myself (big head on lol) far fitter than most people who attend gyms etc as i do a whole multitude of exercise from cycling everywhere (my shitty rs is broke atm lol) gym 4 or 5 days per week, swimming and then theres prob 20 miles or so of running (not jogging lol) per week!

I know in the Met there is no annual fitness test and it is the officers own responsibility to maintain their own fitness...I guess a degree of personal pride comes into it. The only times you complete a fitness test is during initial application, during recruit training and then whenever you apply for a physically demanding job... such as firearms, Territorial Support Group, Dog unit..(well you have to run after the dog) and a few others.
As for the initial physical tests its a lot easier then it use to be... It use to be agility, strength, endurance, stamina, flexibility.
The bleep test is something like 5.2....im sure most people could walk to that level

yer i think most forces use the beep test and push pull test, although where iam i had to complete 3 laps of an obstacle course in under a set time plus the push pull test. deffo comes down to personal pride though.

The push pull test was introduced because the female officers were failing the Press up side of the tests. The amount of press ups you had to do was measured on height and weight. Where some blokes only had to do 3, some of the smaller lasses had to do 20 odd..They deemed push pull a fairer way to assess the ladies

What sort of level do recruits have to get on passing out of training??? I ask this because i know with the armed forces theyve had to lower entry standards and do pre-joining fitness programmes because the average joes fitness levels have gone down so much. Yet the fitness tests once in the job havent been reduced in standard.
Im surprised police havent implemented annual fitness tests too.

I 'think' there was talk of a BFT type whatsit several years ago. But, I recall our union arguing that if work demanded a level of fitness that was tested, then we should be allowed time whilst at work to achieve/maintain said level. Soon as bosses heard that one they ran for the hills.

Just passed my annual fitness test in the RAF, 28 years old had to do level 9:10 on the bleep test, 21 sit ups and 20 push ups... If you can't even manage that you should be ashamed of yourself
... I'm unfit as fuck (been lazy the last year
), and passed with ease.
It is worrying that as a nation we are getting VERY fat and eat so much crap it is untrue
...
On a seperate note, how hard is it becoming an air observer in the Plod?? I imagine it has lots of people applying for it after the 2 years probation?

Very hard dude. They have something like 300 applications for each post. My mate got one of the last two advertised. He is now fully trained and just waiting to transfer across. He is a clever chap who can be a bit 'anal' at times (ahem) and he found it tough going.
