i could get run down buy a joy rider in a stolen car crossing the road dont mean i wont do that
my tyres have been fine for well over a year now and the fitters have never said a word of caution to me and as they do alot of jobs for my work im not the kinda person their gonna mess around they have always done a good job
i keep my tyres inflated to a safe psi and never had a problem even giving my car alot of abuse their fine

Depends what you call a stretch. None had anything mental, but seeing as people here are talking about 195s on an 8 like its a fucking stretch deathtrap (its not even a fucking stretch! I had 195s on a 10, thats a stetch, i currently have 225s on 9.5 and its not even remotely dangerous or stretchy) id say yes they did in the gay terms for stretch most clowns with no experience of it are using on this thread...

I'm calling a stretch a 165/50/15 on an 8x15 rim.... Or a 195 on a 9 inch rim. Which is what I'd say is stupid and pointless much like most of the VW scene in MY own opinion.
The fast VW's don't tend to go for the smooth styled euro look in my experience, I realise that you're just so much cooler and knowledgeable than me because becuase your a world traveled high paid motoring journalist.... But still, stretched tyres are gay as fuck. Not becuase of any safety type issue, just purely because it looks so fucking stupid.
And my mate had 225's on his 9J rims and it looked totally gay. He swapped to 245's. Much better.

I wasn't showing the pics of mine saying they were stretched, the whole point of topic was to find out is 195/45/16's fitted and or/were dangerous.

I doubt that Yokohama would give me tyres and pay for my hobby if they thought I was going to bring their company into disrepute using their product wrongly.
I have already said pretty much all there is to say on the subject, Im surprised people are still going back and forth on the subject. I havent lied, I havent exaggerated and I havent just said "Stretch is always best".
215/40/17 and 215/4/17 on 10j rims is what I ran for 3 seasons of drifting at 100mph+ in the top level competitions in Europe just in case people dont think I know whats involved. Stav would vouch for me Im sure !!

looks poof, is poof and in no way what so ever could it be called safe. The side wall is not made to take loads like that. Its not when stationary or in a striaght line that you need to worry, but when cornering as the sidewalls then become strained. Stupidity IMHO.

right so are stretched tyress good or bad?
i need to replace my tyres on my escort cosworth rims that are fitted to my escort van.
the tyres fitted at the moment are 225/45 r16's and im thinking of replacing them with 205/50 r16's.
im not into the cosmetic side of things and also my van has a wide arch kit on so im thinking that the 205's will look dwarfed and $h!t!
whats your opinion on the size and also what brand would you recommend. fulda carat extremo's are on at the mo but massive performance isnt required as i will be doing a few motorway miles as appose to track thrashing.
thanks

They are not just bad, they are GAY!!
Only people who should have stretched tyres on a road car are the Volkswagen hardcore fans who have long hair and wear trousers round their knees as they clearly deserve risking their life for scene points.

Race cars don't have concerns about arch clearance as they can build the car from the ground up and work the arches around the wheel size needed.
Race cars use extremely low profiles pretty much unavailable for road use so they can run wide tyres with minimum sidewall flex. If they made a 255/10 I'd run it but until then I'll stick with 225/40s
Race cars runs slicks go grip is maximised as it is, we cant run slicks so every little bit towards controlled handling helps.
Race car designers dont really care if their car looks 'pimp' whereas the vast majority of us are concerned with functionality and looks [otherwise we'd all be driving around in bare shells with every possible switch, bulb and wire removed for weight savings
Check the rear wheel. Ice racing = lots of sideways, they use stretch because it makes the breakaway between grip and drift more predictable.
That enough?
Any gen??

totally agree, cant read any more.
i have 195/45 on 8"inch escos rims and they look practically normal.
anyone crying out 'its unsafe' is obviously unfamilar with how a tyre sits on a rim and how the bead seals.
also tyre witdh is an aspect ratio of the height of the sidewall

Typical PF reply, why doesnt someone just tell him what he needs to fucking know instead of telling him how shit it is gonna look and how he`s putting us safety conscious public at risk, you all say how dangerous it is yet all applaud when some one puts a video up of a Cossie donutting round a roundabout at the ACE cafe in front of hundreds of spectators.
Dicko I specifically remember you flying into redcar beach car park 2 yrs ago sideways in your Saff Cossie when we were all stood at the scran van a mere 15yds away, does that not qualify as a tad dangerous?
im sure the police would LOVE it if you caused an accident, then were found to have stretched tyres.
Tyres are the only thing that keeps you on the road, why compromise that by putting tyres on that are too small
I totally disagree with it, and the fact many tyre places WONT fit them stretched tells you how legal it is
