transit flatbed on car licence NO GRANDAD RIGHTS
right quick question can i drive a transit flatbed with a car on the back legally? ive got a full car licence but no grandad rights the gross weight would need to not exceed 3500 tons i believe. but i have no idea if a transit flatbed with s14 on the back weighs more than that anyone give me any advice because all the flatbeds only list a gross load weight

all thransits are differant basicaly, the weight plate on the truck prob wont help tbh, as thats just the chassis cab and wont include the weight of the body on the back as that will have been added after it left the factory, ie if its got a nice light weight ally body then it can carry a heavier car and still be under 3500kg, or if its got a big heavy steel/iron body then anything bigger than a fiesta will prob put you over the 3500kg, so bacicaly its all down to the individual transit, hope that helps

Our lorries at work are modified for our work by bodybuilders and then ULW stamped on them, why would transits be different?
The owners/drivers would have to guess the weight from what you're saying.

We have at work a SWB X plate transit with a very light curtain side body on it, total weight empty is 2.2 tons. Meaning if I put a car in it, that car could weigh 1.3 tons max.
Meaning my 1450 kg Evo is too heavy, my old 950kg Pug 205 would be fine.
I think an S14 might be pushing it in your example.
Best to check at a Public Weighbridge, most towns have a couple dotted around. Our place charges £7.50 a go.
The amount of overweight cars and vans the local police bring to us for testing is untrue - a couple a day at times - some vans being 2 or 3 tons over the 3.5 ton they are plated at!
