Default 8 injectors or 4

theres been several posts recently about the relative merits of each approach but heres a question for mappers/tuners:

considering the complexity of the management system as a whole, would it not be easy to incorporate some form of current sensing on the injector supply? if one went short then the extra flow could be used to trip, and if it went open, the reduction in flow could also do this. in fact the rise time of the current through the injectors must surely be a function of the impedance of the coils - which would change under fault conditions - so why not monitor this.

seems straight forward????

would cancel the key agurment that the pro 4 guys put forward against 8?

Four.

SECS S8 can run massive injectros and provide great fuel economy when running closed loop lambda.

Also the age old arguement for four inejctors, if one of the two per cylinder fails, itll run 50% fuel and will melt the pistons.....however newer management systems like SECS S8 can detect an injector failiure I believe and take appropriate action

so the question is - would you rather use your 8 and pay for secs, or be happy with the average 4??

pgt, There is nothing wrong with 8 injectors.

I personally would always use 4 as now they are much more refined, bigger flowing
and very controllable aswell as getting cheaper now !

The main advantage is that there is less to go wrong and install.

Most aftermarket ECU's do monitor injector current and voltage consumption and can catch
99% of electrical faults to prevent meltdowns in multi injector configurations.

From my experience, 8 injectors is mainly used now on road cars for 2 reasons...

1) Tuners "stuck" in their ways which is not a bad thing - "tried and tested"
2) It looks good !

We have had this discussion on another thread before as you have said....
