Heres me in diesel bm vs a 305bhp vectra vxr
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i0FIyuow7E
Not a mondy but somewhat quicker than ST220 (the vectra VXr)
Mine is quicker than a 330i by miles but i would say a 231bhp 330i would be quicker than a st220. Not by much, get to a few corners and the bm would be gone.

Yes I can relate to that. In my 330 I was treated to a shafting by my mate’s ST220. We started out together from 60 and went up to 100. I had expected to win. By the time I got to 100 he was pulling away at a kind of fast walking speed and had 2 or 3 car lengths lead on me (gulp) Learned to respect them a lot after that…I was shamed into learning the hard way

We actually carried on up to more than 120 (private road don't worry) but by then it was more like 8 or 10 lengths so couldn't handle carrying on with that any longer, the winner was obvious...

He's already said it isn't about speed he wants a good all round car.
The only thing people have singled out about the BM is build quality and it is a little quicker. So that leaves build quality... Once you sit in the Mondeo and feel the buttons you get the sense it is a well built car but we all obviously have different standards.
Question is, can you justify spending so much more money for a BMW? With current economics I say you can't afford not to buy the St220. Alot of car for very little money.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
ST220's are real cheap now, I know I've just sold mine
Early 5 speeders are going for as little as 2 or 3 grand.
they can be abit thirsty round town, sub 20 mpg but will manage 30 on a motorway run.
The rusty doors issue was sorted on later models and by recall on older ones so long as the one your looking at does not have rusty doors then it will be fine, if it has then walk away there are plenty of others...
Only other thing is come April 09 they fall into tax band L with 253g/km (i think) Co2 so that's £400 per year.
The only issues I know of are the dual mass flywheel can give up with higher mileages but that seems to be a common ford thing not just on the ST220.
Given the choice, ST220 (6 speed) all the way.

I thought it might be partly about handling, but for a FWD the Mondeo does handle rather well.

I don't care which would win, am replying to thread topic.
Does quite a few miles, 330D will do 50mpg.
Will be overtaking, 330D has more torque than a 911 turbo I think, certainly after a remap anyway.
Real world acceleration will be much better.
Maybe the one you raced was standard, most likely. So 180/190 bhp.
Top speed is bhp dependent.
Maybe he wasn't racing, as he has nothing to prove being a bmw driver.
Most important factor for me is the bmw is rwd, gives a better drive IMO.

I understand your surprise but actually you did better than I'd expect "only" losing by the amount you did.
