gotta get myself another bike, would like my old ktm400sx back wasn't the fastest bike but one of the easyest to ride imo but very tempted to go for a newer 250sx as the rebuild costs on the 4 strokes are a killer. anyone got any good ppics of them out on track?

Although the 450's above look nice, im not into the whole 450 thing. Just not for me. Good for a blast on the field, or for a lazy thrash or a run on a practice day, but not to race on. If you know how to get the most out of them, a 250 2 stroke is quicker round a track imo. The only track a 450 could be quicker on is the few tracks with some pretty long straights, but not by much if any, and then the 250 could gain ground round the tighter corners imo.
I dont agree with you there mate. All the top riders moved to 450's for a reason and even im quicker on a 450 4 stroke than a 250 2 stroke. I've been away from motocross for a while but i find these 4's so much easier to ride. Smoother and much more progressive. I still prefer the sound of the 2 strokes though!!!

guys and gals, my mate had a 2002 yzf426 motocrosser http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/SSL20509.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/SSL20510.jpg ,that bike was nuts no kidding, its the fastest 4 stroke ive been on no 450f cr or kx could touch it. then he sold it for cash reasons and got this to play about on . http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...r/SSL21121.jpg good old bike for how old it is, and its never off the back wheel.

It really does depend on the condition of the engine as to how quick it is. Many engines are re-built to a poor standard, and many are re-built with uprated bit and pieces that the new owner may be totally unaware of. Also, the fuel mixture makes a MASSIVE difference too and until you experimanet with different mixtures youll never be able to get it to its full potential. With all the modern bikes (or bikes of any year throughout the range), it will really be down to the riders abililty. You cant judge the performance of a bike by riding around on a field imo as many people do. Get it on track, get the stop watch out and go for it. Thats the only way to judge a bikes true performance.

There is pros and cons to both 4 stroke and 2 stroke. If i was to get another MX bike and go riding again, i'd get a 2stroke. Simply because i now how they work, they are a blast to ride and they are relativley cheap to maintain compared to a 4stroke, which as has been said, needs valve clearences checking, oil changes etc. If your getting a bike to thrash round a field stick with the good ol' faithful 2smoker!!
I cant comment on the riding of a 4stroke as i have yet to ride one. Some say that riding a 250 4stroke is similar to a 125 2stroke and the 450 is very punchy but not in a 2stoke 250 slap you in the face way!
