you'd be better off with a 4 channel amp and using it to power a set of front component speakers (mids and tweeters) via 2 of the channels and bridging the other 2 channels to run a sub, this would sound far better imo. Be even better if you could get a second amp to run the sub(s) alone.

If you have the amp set up correctly you cant blow the speakers, they should always be set up to run slightly less than what you are powering is capable of.

theres no way your 300watt 6x9 are actually 300 watt. You should always have a more powerful amp than speakers, the reason for this is you can draw too much out of an amp and although it may sound good you get clipping. this is very bad for the speaker. You want the biggest amp you can afford. a decent set of components, no need for any back door speakers either. If you turn the volume up too much, it will sound shit and distort, this is where you turn the volume back slighty. For bassed you need a sub, and may as well just use a class d amp to power the sub.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
If you have infinity kappa's white cone 6x9's i think they are 70w rms, if you buy a good 4-channel amp with real rms of 4x70w you are looking at around £70 to £100, don't buy cheap rubbish off e-bay and keep clear of amps claiming silly power like 4x500w etc as a good 4-channel amp will take a fuse of around 30a at least, The cheap ones on e-bay claiming silly power of 4x500w take a 20a fuse? (says it all!!) at the end of it all you get what you pay for and its well worth spending more as it will last along time,

i would buy an amp around 4x80w rms for them, but buy a good amp were the power figures are 100%, Ive fitted many of them 6x9's to cars with amps anything from 60w rms to 100w rms so anything with-in them power lines should be fine,

if your planning on running multiple speaker and amp setups invest in an active crossover of some sort, will be the best thing you will ever buy.
the car sound system is no differant to a real outdoor systema nd you would never see a sound enginner just connect a set of speaker to an amp without a mixing desk, this is simply what an active cross over does.
I play in a live rock band, and have 10 inputs into my desk(crossover) then out to over 2.5Kw of sound, you can then EQ the sounds to the correct speakers and remove the frequencies that you do not want, e.g no bass to tweeters, and no high to subs, without a mixer(desk/active crossover) you cannot do this

rockford fosgate are brilliant!!!!they quote REAL figures!not crap like all the cheap stuff you get from birmingham in the back of max power magazine!
pioneer also get a thumbs up from me for quality.
look at rms figures not peak, they tell you nothing.
get a good set of pioneer components up front with a nice 12" sub in the boot (if you prefer punchy music rather than fuller bass get a 10") run off a rockford fosgate 400 4 channel amp,2 channels for the front and 2 channels bridged for the sub,set on the amp appropriately.
then get a decent head unit, either rockord fosgate if you can find/afford,or a pioneer from halfords!
should sound good.

6x9's - fuck em off
The BEST and ONLY type of system you need in a car is a set of GOOD front components (mid range/tweeters) and a powerful sub in the boot.
NO rear speakers at all apart from the sub.
If powered correctly, it will fill the car with music and still have the sub for lows.
DONT get a sub in the boot with 6x9's on the parcel shelf
I recommend JL Audio subwoofers and JL Audio amplifiers, and the front components I run are Alpines.
