Default another computer question...

ive got 2 hard drives on my computer which is now broken....can i take the on out that has all my stuff on it and put it into another computer or is there more to it then that

As long as it's not one of the hard drives causing the problem, then yes you should be able to recover the data from both of them.

There is an adapter you can get which changes the hard drive in a 'slave' drive, you can then link it up via the USB to another computer and then copy the data over.

I have a friend who works on an IT helpdesk and he did a similar thing for me when my laptop picked up a virus.

pm me and I'll contact him to find out exactly what its called as I know he brought his on ebay for about a tenner.

does the hard drive still spin?

You can still get data off it as long as it spins up. Ct it to a usb caddy and you should be able to copy the data off.

if it doesnt spin, wrap it up and put it in the freezer for 5 mins and try again

cheers guys but i dnt think i explained right......one of the 2 hard drives has got the program files, documents and settings etc (the one it boots up from basically) but the one i want purely has my stuff on it, no 'program files' or 'documents and settings'

i think that makes sense

as long as the hard drives aren't fucked then yes, you will just be able to plug em in and get the data off

I have a old hard drive from my last laptop. I stuck it in the new laptop but its coming up with
windows could not start because the following file might be missing or currupt :
windows/system32/config/system.
Any ideas how i can get my files off this or how to mend the problem???

use a live Linux CD such as Ubuntu or Knoppix its a working operating system on a CD.. boot that off your CD, it will see your drives, copy what you want from it to a removable USB thumb drive or external hard drive and your sorted
