When the new tax law come in next year anything registered after 2001 is subject to the new rules.
If a 1996 Supra was imported and registered in the UK in 2004 will it be subject to the rule as it was registered after 2001 ?
If had a search round the web and I get the feeling they will all be in the £440 a year bracket.
Anyone know for sure ?

The vehicle should have the year of manufacture on the logbook and should be on an age related plate.
A 1996 Supra won't be affected.
The banded taxes are for official emissions figures which didn't HAVE to be provided by manufactuer's until March 2001.

Yes it does go by the year it was registered in the UK, not the year it was made/manufacturered. My DC5 Integra is an October 2001 (51 plate) but was only registered last year. Tax is therefore calculated on emissions, as it was registered August 07 its in band G and the £400 a year bracket
(234co emission). Some import firms (although few and far between) can sometimes get around this by using old model reports that it is just PLG and gives no CO2 reading.

If it has a CO2 figure on the V.5, it will be taxed at the rate for that figure.
It's unlikely a 1996 or 1992 has the CO2 figure unless at ESVA someone used a later Model report.

defintiely correct, but if it was imported after March 1st 2008 it needs to have one and will be taxed accordingly. Sounds like the one above may have used an old model report, few importers do this but the SVA people are clocking onto it now. I thought all imports were grey?
