yep your def right rallycross isnt as good as it used to be. The council shut our local stock car track cause of noise even tho its been there since the 50,s, touring cars are lame now i could moan on forever. As for the stock car track it was quality entertainment shame never going to go on around my area again

You could see anything under them Mk2 hoods, seen N/A Cossie lumps, 2L pinto's, Warrior engines. There's not as many WRC's now with the down turn in the economy. Guys are finding it hard to get sponsorship. Eamonn Boland (mega wealthy) seems to be winning a lot these days in his Scuuby WRC cause most of the talented lads can't get a drive.

All the best mk2s come for over the water. Put stupid amounts of money into them so they do.

Most off them over there run XEs, Duratechs or Millingtons.

Going to watch a few off the irish boys in escorts next weekend at a fairly local rally to me.

engines i have seen in mk2 escorts over the years.
1300 bda, 1600 bda, 1700 bda,1800 bda,2.0 bda,2.0 bdg,2.0 bdx
2.0 yb n/a, millington alloy block yb,pinto, x flows,warrior 16v pinto,loads of vauxhalls,
honda engines,mazda rotarys,rover v8,brian hart,suzuki swift,fiat twin cams,
one that sticks in me mind was Gwyndaf Evans, not the british champ from dinas mawwady, but the other from cardigan who had a Gartrac G3 which had a nissan 240 rs motor, now that was a goer

the company redoing bda's is quaife they do alloy blocks

first geezer i ever saw with a millington was Yuk, now he's a character but on the cambrian one year he had yellow sunglasses on in the rain cos he reckoned he went faster if it looked sunny, but i reckon it was the millington.
2 lads i know called dave and steve southall used a diamond series, they are lovely engines but lovely prices.
regards wrc cars in ireland don't tell me because of the slow down they won't be able to lay claim to the most wrc cars in the world being over there.

Ive said time and again you wouldnt believe the amount of money that has been spent in the last 5 or 6 years...Alot of the mk2's are now going for the mountune built duratec at 25k a piece.Your regular mk2 over here now has at least 60k spent on them with the top mk2's upwards of a 100k...
We still have the same old problem, the best drivers can get the budget together to compete at the top level(as mentioned above)Its frustrating to see the likes of Eamon Boland farting about on a stage with a new s12b and a new wrc focus when the likes of Chris Meeke stand on the sideline!!I was talking to Chris on Sunday and for Rally Ireland alone it cost him 70k for car rental and fuel, tyres etc.

70 G's euro or gbp, i remember the good old days when just to do a rally like Donegal in your own ex works group a escort cosworth was Ł25 grand on top of the purchase price the rally car, van, chase car, recce car, trailer.
the spares, tyres, fuel, hotels, etc were included in the Ł25 grand.
fact of life unless your a name,or your well spondoolied up, your never going to get a season old customer spec wrc car, sorry but if Eammon can afford it good luck to him.
iirc a lot of the top lads with newish wrc cars have them to do with tax issues.
one fella i know of that i have spoken to got told to spend about Ł200 grand by his accountant so he went to Prodrive and bought everything he needed and even got Prodrive to engineer the car on the rally, yeah he is a multi multi millionaire but thats what your up against.

thing is when do you stop justin ? do you keep going hoping for a works drive
he should of been in the wrc by now and he may of done if colin was still around but i think he should save his money or if its his sponsors money fair enough.
look at niall mcshea he won gpn world champ and that was not good enough for a top wrc drive.
you gotta love irish drivers though who really can drive and have top spec cars

I still think a '99 WRC Focus can win top irish rallies. Its not just the car. These roads are so hard, that the driver makes huge difference. '99 WRC Impreza could win too. Reliability is the problem those days...

matt, the other week i was at a tarmac rally and was watching colin mcraes old wrc focus from the 01 season and it got beat by a darrian and a 6r4.

my mate has some great pics of the car, its the famous one mcrae smashed into a ball on the rac when he could of been world champion, funny aswell as the car is wanted by a few irish lads who want to buy it, i have put the videos on the rs owners club

The irish tarmac championship is slowly dying a death. Most of the top drivers with WRC cars are only putting entries into the popular events (rally of the lakes killarney, donegal rally, cork 20) This weekend is the cork 20 and i think there is between 10-12 WRC cars entered. Last year there was over 20 privately owned WRC cars and that's not including the citroen and ford works teams. Unfortunately the down turn in the economy has tightened a lot of drivers yearly rallying budget. Shame really because the support rallying has over here is huge but there is lots of talented drivers not able to compete due to the cost of running a car for a weekend.
