Yeah injectors can be a problem when they have racked up a few miles, pre-supply pump and rail pressure sensors. Look at for long cranking time on start up, could be excessive injector leak off. They are £300 each and I would do them as a set. Other than that have replaced a couple of gearboxes at low mileages and they knock out lower ball joints and front driveshafts.

I bought a 3.0 petrol sport last month and it is fantastic
petrols can be had for a very reasonable price as they are expensive to run with the cost of fuel. I had mine converted to lpg which cost £1850. This will pay for itself within 13-14k miles.
Mine just feels so good to drive. Its a Y plate and 7 years old but still oozes bmw class and comfort!
Whats your budget? They are VERY cheap just now! I got mine for a steal really. Check pistonheads etc for already lpg converted ones. Cheaper than diesel
20k if she's lucky probably!

Back on topic Gus get a diesel or if you can stretch the running costs or find one gas converted get a 4.4 or bigger. The 3.0 petrol is one to be avoided, horrible to drive and feels very underpowered compared to the rest. Of course sport and auto are must haves and as said if they break the diesels can be dear to repair.
PM Carlo on here he works for bmw and will fill you in on what to look for exactly.

Ive recently bought a 4.6iS X5, one of the best cars i had and one of the best for towing with,
I got my Renault Trafic stuck on wet grass/mud with a car trailer and my 3 dr on that, tied a tow rope from the X to the van (with the trailer and 3dr still attached) and it pulled the lot out with no hassle,
MPG is a little poor, but it is suprisly quick.

i recently had a 3.0 sport, nice car but i decided i would ruin it if i started using it for trailering my track car etc so have sold it and kept my l200.
they are dropping like stones value-wise at the mo,i sold my 52 plate one with 90k miles for £10k-see a few on auto trader for £8995-8500 now!
watch for self levelling suspension faults and batteries going flat.
would i have another one..............probably not if i was going to be honest.

after buying it,i then looked into the self levelling fault on the net-where i found worldwide slating of the x5 for many reasons-poor build quality, electric components that turn themselves on(heaters/stereo),batteries going flat without warning(mine did it twice).
they look awesome and are nice to drive, but i currently have a 180k mile 7 series that drives and feels much nicer.
plus i kept banging my head getting in it!
a lot of car for the money but if you want a 4x4-there are much better out there.
but i have a mate who has had 3 and swears by them........

He'd only say that if you're on a budget mate. The diesels drive soooooo much nicer.

Chop,
how much harder on fuel do you think the v8 is
on my trip to nat day I done 700 miles with the trailor and used 2 full tanks.Do you think the 3.0 litre would return that??

dude i think i've been picked up wrong.
i chose petrol over diesel so that i could lpg as its cheaper.
i then chose the 3.0 over the 4.4/+ as its a more "reliable" unit and easier if anything god forbid goes wrong.
i do also know that the 4.4 should return similar mpg as the 3.0 as its doing less work. i could've had a more loaded toy also probably but mine came up at too good a price! FBMWSH inc service for buying it, 2 lady owners, 45k miles, private plate worth £400-500 all for £10k!
700 miles on 2 tanks pulling a trailer is awesome IMO!!
