Default phone scam?

just had a cal from an 0845 number asking if i would accept a reverse charge phone call with the message "you have a reverse charge call from "static buzzing" say yes to accept it"

so i put the phone down as i didn't want to get involved

the next time i picked up the phone, the same message

so i disconnected and when i connected the line to call someone, i got the same message

so i said "yes"

and some woman on the phone said she was calling from the nhs

"why are you calling me, on a sunday, with a reverse charge phonecall?"

"there is a problem with our systems"

"then get them fixed and call me back later"

and put the phone down

then i called bt to find out what was going on and apparently it's one of them reserve charge phonecall things where they leave a message with a company and then it becomes all automated

08456853000 is the number it originated from so if you have caller id enabled and this number comes up with the same sort of message, beware

this public service broadcast was sponsered by dojj, and the letters b and t, with the number 3

as helpful as that link is (and the subsequent link that is 105 pages long and took me 25 minutes to read page 5 alone) i think i shall follow the advice of the bt lady and put the phone down and leave it unused for the next 30 or so minutes

this should stop the reverse charge call from blocking the line up as was happening to me until i answered the message

this is the best link i've found so far

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=17890141

which seems to back up what bt have told me across 3 different call centers, so if i get a bill for Ł3.48 then i shall start to complain about it

Oh I didn't read how much was on there and the advice, it was merely to say it had been reported, sorry

that may have come across a bit harsh

i was mearly commenting on the 105 pages worth of techy speak that i failed to understand, rather than mocking you for telling me about it

hoipe that makes clear any misunderstanding that may have occoured
