Default how far out are rolling roads!! BRISTOL Rolling road day

Bristol group RSOC rolling road shoot out today at powerstation no stage 3 cosy made over 300BHP

almost all the cosys were 40/50bhp down on there figures

last time mine made 320bhp(hot summer day) about 1000 miles ago

since then all i fitted was a Proalloy RS500 cooler(more power) damp cold raining nov day and now the figure was 284bhp almost 40 bhp down.

Why are rolling roads so fooked up

Thats powerstation for you m8 that why i stayed worked rather than drive up there
they figures are always wild..
Remeber last year they had daves on the rollers and after running it up to 2bar boost they decided that only 4 of his 8 dark greens were working and would not run it again..
needless to say all 8 were working

I think Simon did say they would if you wanted, I wasn't too bothered - if there was something wrong I would have blown it up long ago

I don`t want the lag mate and want to a small turbo back on like it`s meant to have.

Got a new T28 hybrid 360 bearing waiting to be bolted on then a live map set up etc..

Powerstations rollers have always been totaly bizzare and rushed, like the rest of their work They seem to guess a lot of things with no basis for their thoughts, like the 4/8 inj thing that was mentioned.

I had a nice lie in, then did some work on my car, then aranged tonights and 2moro nights drinking/birds plans.

And did the washing up

I went to a Gti-R owners club rolling road day there earlier this year and it was exactly the same

I doubt any of the cars spent more than 5 mins on the rollers and even with about 20 cars there it was all over in no time

Powerstations rollers are well known for being a bit on the conservative side as far as power readings go anyway

Rolling roads are only good at estimating power they are inherantly
inaccurate due to losses through the transmission/tyres/tyre pressure/clutch etc.
Only comparisons on the same day at the same enviromental conditions should be
used (good for setting a car up as you make adjustments).
Also, BHP power correction needs to measure humidity, ambient air pressure,
ambient temperature and accurate RPM measurement (via ignition pickup).
Hardly ANY rolling road I know off has ALL these facilities if any at all.

What is consistant about todays results is that all similar power cars are
down on power which kind off backs up what I am saying.

RRdays are bollocks, facto, mainly for the reasons mentioned above, total guesswork, esp flywheel fiugres.
If people wanna prove how quick there car is a group day at a RWYB would be far better, and more fun too.

That said, some RRs are more consistant than others, but Powerstations ones have always always been incredibly inconsistant.

Shakespear County raceway on way to Stratford from Cheltenham, i prefer it to Santapod actually for the track etc, about 20min drive from Chelt.

Cant remember prices off top of head but less than 20quid for unlimited runs on a RWYB, and you will get LOADS of runs too, as many as you like, unlike Santapod RWYBs where it so busy youl be lucky to get more than 3 runs.

Need a helmet for 100mph+ terminals.

Santapods not too far tho, 1.5hr from Chelt, so only 2ish from Bristol, but ShakespearCounty is better IMO.

If you want a high figure go to Power Engineering.... if you want a lower figure go to Powerstation. TBH I will stick with an under reading any day of the week.

Steve,
Thats funny as PS seem to have the same impression about you as well!!!

Simon,
To correct figures to DIN 70020 requires exactly what you have stated. Unfortunately the rollers at PS have this, but the extrenal box that takes all the readings is mullered hence why there BHP @ Flywheel figures are uncorrected.

I think the thick layer of rubber the thing left on the rollers was the reason for that reading tho

Even with 2 peeps on back seat and 3 in the boot

My car was a claimed 1000bhp (according to the laws of IMA), but I only achieved just over 500bhp on PS rollers.

Why not just go with the wheel figures and compare car against car on the day.

If a car wheelspins it OVER reads not under reads. The rollers have a set resistance on an accelerator style test and the engine rpms are measured by the computer and if they raise really quickly the r/r believes the car has loads of power to accel that load figure so quickly.

Thats why accelerator tests on a rolling road result in innaccurate figures.

A nice loaded up figure, up at 500 rpm intervals or 1000rpm intervals and held against the rollers at those rpms tends to give a steady figure.

Engine RPM wasn't measured.

They were just being slung on and run up.

How did the wheel figures compare with what people expected?

That 442bhp car, looks like its got a small turbo escos inlet and a smallish internal wastegate GT series on it, so couldnt see it ever being over 500bhp, no way the 600bhp mentioned, so i dont see whats THAT wrong with a 442bhp reading myself as very few "500bhp" cars get near that on the rollers.

PowerStation flywheel figures have always been really really inconsistant, dunno about wheel figures mind

steve it sruns the eco tech throttle body correct as it is larger!

its a gt30 internal wategate turbo aswell!

Mr Shead dyno'd 1 the same with less boost than ade rusn 7 it made 521hp! so ade's should be aorund the 530 mark!

the 600hp car that Ranj was talkin about was not supose to be 600 lol!

but it did run a GT35 & external wastegate same setup as what daves had i beleiev when he made 550hp
