Mike, MX5 suspension setup is awesome, totally agree with you there, its just not practical enough with wheels and tyres and can only ever be 2 seats, taking a support car just down the road to beford isnt too much of a pain, but would be a monstrous amount of extra cost on a ring trip for example.

E30 318is for Ł800 (ballpark figure, give or take whatever)

Eaton M45 Supercharger for Ł100-Ł150

Spend the rest on getting that set up plus whatever other extras you fancy

great handler and 200-220BHP. Far better all-round package than a 6cyl IMO

Too much aggro, dont want to start some long winded tuning project and all the potential problems that causes, it would be expensive to do properly (management etc) and would potentially be unreliable if not done properly (no good hammering it up the road pinking its tits off cause its got too much timing and no easy way to change it)

Ideally want something where the engine can just be left alone, and is known to be reliable.

Well it would need to be about 800 quid at most, which kind of limits the options, im still not convinced that an mx5 is the ideal way for two big fellas and a little fella to get to germany though

Let me clear this one up. WE ARE NOT BUYING AN MX5. I dont care how well they handle, how revvy the engine is or how cheap to modify NO NO NO NO NO

So bascially we're still looking at a 325/328 E36 by the sounds of it?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1992-VAUXHALL-...d=p3286.c0.m14

Rich, what about that?

LSD as standard, torquey as fuck, over 200bhp, not too heavy (and we can lose some of the weight anyway) and being a vauxhall, cheap to get parts for and i know plenty of people who will help us fix it etc.

They handle pretty well too, and loads of pikey mods we can copy off the irish drifters

Are you actually replying to the same thread as everyone else?

You know, the thread we are in now, the one that said it MUST be ultra reliable and minimum hassle?

We want something we can basically just strip out, sort a few bolt on goodies like new shocks and springs, and then drive it to germany and back.

Problem with Jim's car:
He needs it for work, so no good if we stack it on track, and when it goes wrong he ends up having to put it in a garage to get it fixed as it always needs to be done ASAP
The seats are rubbish, they dont hold you at all, and to remove them and fit buckets would make it less pleasant for him as a daily driver

Car itself is fine, but not while jim is using it as a daily driver, as we cant make it more track orientated, and buying it off him would totally blow the budget for me and rich.

Quick Reply: Budget track car
