Default advice needed. head gasket gone (C20LET)

the other day on the way home from pod my car started running lumpy and missing. it literally happened at the end of my road so i got it home and parked it up.

i done a compression test and got these results.

1- 10.1
2- 9.2
3- 4.0
4- 4.5

when the tester was in clylinder 3 smoke was puffing out of number 4 and when tester was in 4 smoke came from 3.

after seeing them i started to take the head off hoping to find the gasket gone between 3 and 4.

well the head is now off enough for me to slide teh gasket out and there is a nice few mm gap between clyinders 3 and 4.

now do i just replace the head gasket and bolts and put it back together time it up and hope for the best or is there anything else i could or should check before.

do gasket just go in time or will there be a cause of the problem somewhere that i need to find first?

the engine is a calibra turbo (c20let)

cheers in advance for any advice!

Steel rule across the mating surfaces corner to corner and lengthways, crossways etc to see if anythings warped/damaged otherwise general poke around and get it back together.

if the head had previously warped slightly this could be why the gasket eventually blew through. Could be worth getting the head checked out, will save a lot of buggering about in the future!

You need to skim the head IMHO

Hopefully the block will be ok though.

Use a goetze(sp?) gasket, available from steve.

cool, steve still has an f28 of mine actually, i forgot about that lol.

i'll give him a bell and arrange picking that up and a gasket. and i'll take the head off totally and strip it down, and get that skimmed.
im quite tempted to throw an xe inlet cam in there while im at it too.

cheers guys. hopefully it'll be running again soon!
