Must be mistaken, couldn't make it up that bad - where the fuck are they supposed to be/go?!
Look at vanos, got inlet and cam sensors either side and tdc sensor in middle.
All mounting bolts for these are accessible straight off, and to get to connectors just remove plastic shield lower down under vanos 2 plastic nuts.
Connectors are fiddly which takes time otherwise simple and straight-forward.

They also told me I had no VNC control unit when I needed one

That'll be the engine the sensors are stuck into then
Fucked if I know, have to have ITB's off for knock sensors, they're down there, must be some confusion somewhere, I know some main dealers are clueless but that takes the piss.
