jims right about the lobs, the pressure moves them over
its STILL classed as VVT though jim,,, as thats what it is
getting pedantic we could do about everything in life that done things in a different way
but Vtec engines are classed as VVT, thats how they are classed just cause one is pully based and the other is extra lobes its still the same CLASS of concept

There are three rocker arms normally the two outside ones just run a 'normal' profile but when Vtec is engaged a locking pin goes across and locks all three together so the longest/highest profile is used.

It will be a bin for that price,I know they`re cheap but not that fuckin cheap, ever heard the phrase "when things seem too good to be true........."
Even for a track car I bet your hand will never be out of your pocket for bushes etc on a tired Ł2,600 M3,sorry

ALSO im sure some engines use BOTH cams to adjust and the actual cam timing,, think the yamaha engine in the puma does that but not totally sure ( 1.7 engine)
theres another but i would have to be at work to check the info
ITS STILL VAIRIABLE VALVE TIMING,,,, EVEN THOUGH IT DO VARY IT LIKE VANOS,,,, BUT IT STILL ADJUSTS IT FROM ONE TO ANOTHER,, MEANING IT VARIES

it works different, but the same idea is what im getting at, a V8 engine is a internal combustion engine,,, so is a boxer engine and so is a zetec and so is a cvh,,, just a different aproach to it so different but the same idea to get the end result

its the same CLASS,,,,, thats what its CLASSED as ,,,, what part are you not seeing
and why am i arguing when this AINT gonna go anywhere
its adjusting valve timing, BOTH do that in different ways, OVERALL its classes as a concept of VVT

My 3.0 litre has that.
For the track, and the price, has to be a 3.0 litre.
Take the abuse better imo, stronger box, squarer engine.
My 3.0 is nearly on 140k miles now, bought it at 107k miles, and never had to top the oil up.
For an engine that revs to 7700 and is 13 years old think that's very good, and gives the impression it will last as long as you want if looked after.
Evo is 316bhp, and that's for a left hooker, over here they'll struggle to get that due to the different exhaust.
Very little real world bhp difference between 3.0 and 3.2, 3.2 has better torque however.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
m_nettleship: Go for an m3 & a prefably the 3.0 (they tend to have the Rolls Royce vanos not that it makes a difference i guess but just noticed mine the other day and got a wee bit chuffed lol) but yeh for the monies and not having to worry about topping up oil or melting pistons etc gotta say superb cars......
Would defo take the/abuse the m3 on the track over the cosworth (no matter how mint/reliable the cosworth is)

suspension is different on an evo as well, different bottom arms and top mounts, for more camber/castor,different diff ratio as well. 3.0 m3 is single vanos on the exhaust cam,evo 3.2 has double vanos.FYI mine is on 150k on original vanos/engine/box.

Vtec alters the valve lift and the duration that they are open, VVT alters the cam timing.
Think of Vtec as a change of cams and VVT as altering a Vernier Cam Pulley

I owned a 3.0 M3 for 3yrs & it was a great car, i have owned my M3 Evo for a year now & its great also. I only really bought the Evo because i wanted estoril blue & the newest E36 M3 i could afford + good condition etc. I think the Evo is the better car, front brakes are certainly better but you can fit evo discs to the 3.0 no problem anyway. If it was a cheap track car i was looking for i would go for the 3.0 though ,5 speed box is much nicer & stronger. I have already replaced my 6 speed box with one thats only done 40k as my one was notchy & had the common problem of popping out of 3rd gear occasionally ,was only Ł500 though + Ł40 for oil. My vanos was renewed at 70k by previous owner its now done 105,000.

I had silver leather in my old 3.0 & yes it does show wear more than black but its easily rectified. My Evo has black leather.
Here's some pics as requested:
Cost me Ł6700 exactly a year ago but we all know they have dropped a lot since then but at the time it was a good price for the spec/colour/history & being one of the later ones with proper history.
