Default Whos got an Asus eee pc?

Now that ive got wireless net in my house im wanting something small/light portable that i can browse the web on/use msn etc, and thought this looks perfect.

so what do i need to know?

Im used to XP so id like this but i was looking on Ebuyer just now as i use that site alot but it only says "pre-installed linux" on them all but says xp compatible aswell.
So should i just find somewhere with it pre installed or is it easy enough to buy one with Linux on and install xp myself as ive got a copy of xp (cd pc version anyway)

If all your going to be using it for is browsing the web, msn etc then try it with Linux you might even like it Should be simple enough to format to the OS of your choice.

Personally I find the screen resolution a bit low for doing a lot of browsing, you will end up doing a lot of scrolling around to read things and view pictures.

If you do get one then stick with the pre-installed OS, it comes with Firefox web browser which looks exactly the same as the Windows one and there really is no need to install Windows on it.

One thing they are good for is taking on holiday if you want to watch the odd film/transfer photos to and browse the web (they are also perfect for hacking into wifi connections for free internet whilst away)

We took one to Canada this year for a few weeks and it was perfect for checking up on snow reports and weather forecasts each day. For using at home i'd want something with a slightly bigger screen...

Hmm yeah i know for the non fussy type the eee pc is probably perfect but im abit picky so if theres alot of left/right scrolling then id throw it in the corner and sit back on the main house pc i guess i could spend abit more and get a small note book.

So the one above comes with xp thats nice whats it run like? and is the track pad ok? i saw some reviews on cheaper lappys and some people say the track pads are crap.
Lastly is the screen nice and crisp?

EDIT, damn shame it doesnt have a cd/dvd drive but you cant have everything for nothing.....

got a 901 linux here, posting via it now

imo it pisses over the competition, even the avant above

8.9" screen , no scrolling sideways to view the web?

battery life the best in the range of small netbooks, think its the smallest in the range too, key point for me

linux is a pain, but im getting there after a days use, will see how i get on with it over a few weeks, if no good, ill xp it!

thats fair enough, does seem if you want any specialist use xps the way to go, or struggle like fuck.

Me i wanted internet, and a portable film player with decent battery life, should do around 4hrs of video playback, or enough for to films on a flight

I have one and cant really fault it. I bought the Asus Eee 900 with XP preinstalled and the only thing I can fault is the battery is shite !

Brother has just got this though, which seems very cheap !!!!
