The bumper on the 2wd was attached with cable ties, one of them snapped (luckily only parking the car at that time, not tanking it on the m-way).

How much and where can I find the plastic bit which is rivetted to the inside of the bumper ? The right hand side on mine is missing the rubber/nut as it's broken off (highlighted in picture).



Also, what else do I need to attach the bumper onto the car ? The left hand side has a little triangular hole punched out which is fine, the right hand side however, looks like this:


How can that be remedied ?

PS: If the parts are still available from fords, do you know the FINIS codes for them ?

still available from ford or Woodford. Triangular inserts should be too but any sierra ones will work. Use M8 bolts with some threadlock and you're away.

Did warn you about cable ties! (should have used Duck tape )

Maybe not teh OS one, it looks a little too far gone. You could use one as a spacer and a 'repair' type washer behind it so it won't pull through.

Yes Dave, just got into services to park the car and go for a tinkle and coffee.
I drove up to the space and mis-judged my entry so clipped the kerb with the rubber strip, bumper fell off and I stopped !

That tie wrap must have been on its last threads, sooooooooooo glad it didn't happen on the motorway - sometimes life has a way of stabbing you in the back and giving you a hug at the same time

No worries about the drive, shame we couldn't give it some (again maybe that was best in the end). Maybe next time...

The plastic panel is moulded in one piece with the round thing, and I couldn't get them from Ford, but PJ Motorsport came up with the goods a few years ago. Might be worth a try there.

Nath, nessie is indeed out, but still a little sick, trying to sort something out with Sheady at the mo.

Got onto the phone to ford's today, ordered a kit which contains the two uprights that rivet into the bumper for Ł60 odd + VAT (spot on guzzler) and a new wheel arch liner for the passenger side, it's shred to pieces for some reason, front wheel rubbing onto it. Could be because the bumper was loose-ish and the liner wasn't tucked in properly.
Guy at Ford's wasn't sure if the kit contained the triangular plastic bits that fit onto the wing, but said the bolts are included, I should be able to pick it up tonite or tomorrow am, so will see.
Fingers crossed hey, otherwise it's back to good old tie wraps

Yes I have, leaving work early-ish to swing by wokingham tonite. Inchcape there are the mutts nuts, order something in the morning, it's there by lunchtime or evening... none of this waiting three days for stuff to never arrive.

Probably will be eating my words in an hour or so...

Guess I won't be fixing it this week end, although I might try and knock up something with some wood to get going.

Might have to give woodford a call tomorrow or monday, can't find the triangle bits on ford's computer

Pleased you got the kit - looks like my local dealer just couldn't be bothered to look for them.

Re the triangular things - are you talking about the slides that the round things slot into? If so, get them off any Sierra down the scrappy - surely Ford wouldn't make different ones of those? They are a simple twist fit, but can be stubborn after years in the crud.
Looking at the metalwork on your photo I'd take some tinsnips and cut the panel off and weld it on over yours to give the slider something to attach to.

Got some clips: Part number 6151261, but they are not the right ones
Kit only contains the pieces that fit inside the bumper (rivetted).

With a bit of luck I will have a bumper back on later on today

well ya think thats bad i took em car to the garage to get the dodgy feeling brakes bleeded and i found the problem with my car, a crack in the disk going from the outside to the inside and halfway into the bell, wish i new that on wednesday

Got the clips, but I think I am going to need to find a breakers with a wing I can hack as "the knife" said.

Only problem is last time I tried welding I made I right mess of it...

Right, found the correct bits at a breakers (got a few extra for spares at the same time), a sheet of steel from homebase, some rust treatment, primer and paint just need to find a welder and someone who can operate it now

Another little job that's turned in a day of driving around finding the relevant bits

Brackets can be bought from ford, part number is above in this post somewhere, there's Ł60 quid though, the plastic holders that fit into the wing I could only get from a breakers, ford couldn't find them on their computer
Make sure you get some looooooooong rivets though, 3.2 mm, 15mm long minimum, anything else is too short.

Craig, I hid your welding under the paint for posterity, one day, someone will scrape the paint off and say "geez, that's quality welding"

ricky asked for more pictures and instructions, so here goes...

You need to get hold of two plastic bits that look like this, these don't come with the kit mentionned in my earlier post:

and


The one on the right is the one I got from fords, but it didn't fit my bumper bracket. The one on the left came from a breakers, found it on loads of saffs, make sure you bring a 13mm spanner along as there is a bolt going through them into the bumper. While you are there, keep the bolts, you might need them, and make sure you take a left and right hand one from the car, they are not the same.

These babies then locate into the triangular hole in the wing, twist a little and they locate in place, ready to receive the bumper.

Just slide the bumper into them so that the round rubber bit on the T-Piece which is rivetted inside the bumper slots into the plastic brackets.





Then, crawl under the car and bolt the bumper up by threading the bolt from under the wing, through the plastic bracket into the t-piece.

Just a thought,but is the wing that was rusty an original? I say this because you might want to check the chassis rails above the rear beam for rot too.
I'm not sure if all crystal blue saffs were made in the same production run,but i sold my crystal blue saff to paul at north yorks rs spares,and when he stripped the car he said it was rotten above the rear beam.
Maybe the rust on the wing is a sign of something more sinister?
Obviously your car may be a lot better rot wise than mine was,but i'm just trying to help.

Slowpoke, probably rust on the wing, as you can see from the earlier pictures, the hole was no longer a triangle, but just a round hole, so the bumper bracket no longer holds properly and the bumper wobbles as a result.

Or, the plastic bracket has broken and is wobbling around.

Best jack the front up, and have a look under there, you should be able to get a pretty good idea without taking the bumper off.

My 4x4 sapph bumper is loose too, looks like the bracket isn't locating 100%, I think it may soon get a similar treatment...

XR AND COS, thanks for the help I looked around and it was just the wing that was rusty in that area, and yes, it's an original, the chassis is ok too. You mention the back chassis rails, the bumper repair was done at the front.

The rear chassis rails are prone to rust and that's something to watch in any case, which is fair enough when you consider the car's 16 years old

Yes i know you repaired the front wing,what i meant was that rot in one area can often mean rot in another.Having owned 20+ sierras/sapphires of various specs and vintages,i just thought i'd share the info with you.
