I had one that was a couple of years older. They are a Ronseal car, it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Expect rear subframe bushes to fail at approx 60,000 miles. My old one just went on and on and on, it was literally unbreakable. I had it about 18 months and did 50k in it, the only thing it needed was a new ARB link (5 quid from ebay) for the mot. As long as it is well serviced you will have no problems!

looking at ST220 to replace the scooby

thanks Rich, sounds like a good choice for someone who wants a car to just be able to start and drive with no trouble

thats right mate, although there was nothing wrong with it, i sold it cos it was pretty dull. The st220s are fast, but there's no getting away from the fact they're a big, heavy old barge, so you'll be getting very friendly with the guys at your local filling station!

I have a 52 plate mondeo 115 tdci that's just hit 100k and it feels as fresh as it did at 70k. They are mile munchers, and very good at it.

its just the flywheels on the diesels and rear subframe bushes that are the common faults

Flywheels go as they are dual mass, which I have been told fails with heat. So if someone sits there slipping the clutch on a hill all the time there is more chance of this. In this case a high mileage car could be better, as to do 90-110k in a few years most of it will have been motorway, which won't stress the flywheel or the other components so much.

heat is one problem, the other is that they were derived from a petrol engine, then stuck on the diesels which nearly has twice as much torque and they just cant handle it
