Not if you want it to last. Think the cleaning kit is only £10 from memory. Consists of cleaning fluid & oil to reapply to the filter. You clean them from the inside out so the dirt doesn't get driven into the filter material, spray the cleaner on the outside & rinse with water from the inside.

My kits over 5 years old, and is used on at least 4 cars, so good value.
Petrol will kill the surgical grade cotton used in the K&N filters.

As I've said before, buy the cleaner and oil separately.

In the kit, they give you an aerosol of oil that will outlast the bottle of cleaner massively. You can buy the oil individually and a much bigger bottle of cleaner, which in my opinion is the better way to do it.

Stick it in the bin, they don't give any gains, and filtration is ten times worse than OEM (panel right?).

Lots of research and tests on the net, and holding a not too old one up to a light and seeing the holes in it.
The advertising people obviously groom potential customers with their wording like the filters groom the air to speed it up...

That they might be, but also the RS Turbo owners that relocate the turbo above the gearbox have pretty much no choice but to use an HKS style Mushroom filter.

IMO, K&N are good if they are kept in good condition. They do have a 1,000,000 mile warranty, I wonder what the stance is on one that has gone 'holy'!!??

Issue for me is going from 99.8% filtration to 98%, they claim it's a little 1.8% drop.
In my eyes it's ten times worse - 2.0% drop from perfect vs 0.2%, depends on how you look on it I guess.
As there's very very little difference in restriction between a new OEM and no filter at all, can't see the point of it.
All in regards to panel items of course.
