They had just as much traction problems when the front went light as they do today!

The car shown has 2 engines joined at the crank driving the rear wheels and the other 2 engines joined and driving the front.
Both pairs face opposite directions.

The car is relatively stable as there is no sideways twisting effect as on normal high powered cars.
