Ive got a 04 Focus 1.8 Zetec, what i want to know is, what can i do to increase the power of my car, but what the cheapest way to do this is? i know this is a vague question but im not that 'up' on all the technical details, but im learning lol

Any help is good help, but dont go straight into technical data, cos that might just go over my head lol

plenty of bolt-ons available if its the 1.8 zetec. 2.0 cams, throttle body, induction kit, sports cat, aftermarket exhaust system and would be easier things to do.

beyond that think performance cams, tubular exhaust manifold, underdrive pulleys, remap.

beyond that its either throttle bodies or forced induction.

 

thats a good start, maybe a rough guess a prices too

 

IMO all gains will be marginal unless you either add forced induction or spend fortunes.

 

need to know your budget.

an exhaust, filter, chip combo might gain you a few horsepower and sound more throaty, but will still set you back the best part of a grand.

 

I havent set a budget, i dont want the most pricey products but i would like good products, i know that them products are the nom thing to buy first

 

keep your eyes open on ebay and focus forums for 2nd hand bits, bargains are to be had.

this american store has alot of focus zetec tuning parts much cheaper than UK prices, and the dollar is very low, and they are quick shipping to the UK:

even with import duty its much cheaper than UK prices. they have performance cams for like Ł180 a set. compared to Ł450 for kent or piper cams from the UK.

ok, first things first look at getting a DECENT performance exhaust, there are loads of manufacturers that'll do em for a focus.

then look at getting yourself a decent air filter or inducion kit, again loads of different brands out there.

then you'll be wanting a "chip" (on your car it'll probably just be a remap) again LOADS of different places out there. (i'd personally reccomend www.eveolutionchips.co.uk)

you wont get much more different info.

you really need to think about 1) how much you want to spend 2) how much performance you want.

also DO NOT ignore the possibility of SELLING your car and buying a better performing model. most people overlook this then end up spending twice as much to get something half as good

yea your rite, i wouldnt have thought about selling it. but i guess i dont want this car to be mega powerful car but i guess around 200bhp would be a sensible target unless you guys think that is unreachable

megabucks race engine perhaps you'll be lucky to see 150 after spending more than the car's worth, you've only got 115odd!

the jackson supercharger kit will take a 1.8 to 200bhp quite comfortably (you really need to fit a decent exhaust system aswell though) and its Ł1500 from USA. it comes with the bigger injectors and all you need, but the chip it comes with doesnt work on the UK ECU so you still need a chip/remap of some kind.

its not dead cheap but not totall bank emptying either, and you can remove it if/when you sell the car and sell the kit on for decent money.

i've got this system on a mondeo zetec and am pretty chuffed with it TBH.

hayward and scott are pretty good but aint the cheapest. loads of different systems available for the focus and i aint sure what other focus modifiers favoured exhaust preference is TBH.

my car already had uprated suspension, brakes, wheels, blah blah so the supercharger kit was kinda the next thing it needed. once you have the extra power you would need to think about upgrading these things aswell, so total cost do get the most out of it will esculate which all boils back to maybe thinking about buying a beefier model of car to start with...
