this is like comparing the MK2 RS2000 to the Escort Cosworth.... nearly 15 years age difference in these cars.

i've had cossie's for about 8 years now , just sold my saff 4 months ago for an evo 8
got it remapped to about 370 bhp
so far it's does everything i want , starts does not rust at the first sign of rain
i do still like the cossie dont get me wrong , i might go back to one ??
but i just want a car i can get in thrash, take on the track and drive home
i dont regret getting an evo one bit
parts can be a tad expensive ( clutch Ł1000 )
but to me jap is the future , for now till or if ford ever get there finger out and build cars like they used to , back in the good old days of the cosworth

we got both and have had numberous cossies and 2 evos
theres so much between them(20 YRS of tech for one)
and they both do different jobs
done 5k in the evo 350ish bhp and its not used any oil
do this in a cossie and you would of knocked the cranck out
love them both really but the rice burners do tend to drive
themselves where as the cossies need someone with abit about
them to rag it to within its life

makes me laugh that the Evo owners are saying the fuel econonmy isn't too bad if you drive them sensibly.................THEN WHATS THE POINT OF OWNING ONE???!!!

Why own any performance car if you gonna complain about what the mpg is when your giving it some? You may aswell buy yourself a diesel ffs

You only notice evos are bad on fuel because they are on the road a lot more than a cossie!!!!

i ve had a evo (3)4s and a 6 and currently have a 3 door cossie and an impreza turbo(family car)preffered the evo 6 but at handeling second to none if you cant drive?they take the fun out of driving where as the cosworths a real drivers car you need to know how to drive a cosworth right with out wrapping it into a lampost with the new evo's they just dont have the hard look that they did with the 5 and the 6like the imprezas aswell the classic is the best looking etc etc but for your answer i think the cossie is the car after the evo in my own oppinion its like when you see a cossie going down the road everyone stares at it evos there to many the only bad thing about cossie as they get older more money needs spent on them but you can tune a cossie to 400bhp for under 2500(rufly)where as to get that out of a scoobie or evo you either have to be the bank manger or good mates with himthey are really exspensive to get to that maybe double that and they are twice the cost to run but i do like evos but the cossie are legendry!!!

to be fair the evos are all around better cars without a doubt. but a cossie has a raw aggressive side, looks hardcore, and puts a smile on your face. But i agree with the guy that said they only seem like that t us as we have wanted one for ever, its just like if a guy wanted a evo from day one he would say what were saying. i got offered a swap for a r34gtr but didn't take it.. the though crossed my mind to just swap but the i thought could it make me feel like the cossie does.. there's no better feeling than a 20 year old cossie ripping it up against evo's and scoobs in a straight line and coming out on top.

I remember that feeling. I had a couple of saphs about 10 years ago (sheesh) and bought a pulsar gti-r, I couldn't believe you didn't have to top it up with oil every week

Infact I've had shed loads of jap turbo stuff in the last 10 years (gti-r's, imprezas, evo's, skylines, etc) and not one of them has used enough oil to warrant a top up! Well apart from the RX7! but then they are supposed to.

I know people are going to say "you must have had tired cossies" but every cossie I've driven and been around (that friends have owned etc) have drunk oil like a fish.

I do love the cossies though and would like a nice 2wd saph or escort, trouble is after looking atone last year they have lost a lot of their charm.

As for the Evo being bad on fuel, it's no wore than any other 2.0L Turbo IMO. It's got a smaller fuel tank than most similar cars and sort of split fuel tank where one minute you've got 1/4 tank then a few bends later you've got bugger all.

I think a good car is an Evo RSII or RSX. I had an RSX a couple of years back and it was a nice car, had the RS diff (so no AYC taking over etc) but still had electric windows, recaro seats and normal GSR gearbox (unlike the RS with windy windows, flat seats etc)

Dont think thats a very sensible thing to say i bet there are many people on here who have fast cars but dont have a lot of spare income.I have always run fastish cars granted nothing as extreme as an evo or a scooby and petrol is just something i have consider with having a mortgage, 2 kids and cant afford to use Ł20 every time i start the car up......ffs[and as it happens i hate diesels]

I agree completey with ESCYSCOTT if your looking at owning a Cossie/EVO/Scoob then fuel economy really shouldn't be on your radar in my opinion

and for me personally I've owned STi8 + PPP, Evo VIII GSR 350hp and 2 Escort Cossies and they have all been exactly the same on fuel economy certainly nothing where I could notice, if one uses anymore than the other its probably because its quicker

and why do we keep having this same conversation anybody that owns an Escort Cossie typically does so because they want to not because they've bought the latest copy of Max Power and think its the weapon of choice during pub banter

The Evo looks shockin always has done, looks like a taxi with some bits stuck on from Ripspeed you expect to see a Ł7.99 streamlined air freshner stuck to the dashboard. I followed a completely standard red escort cossie back up the M1 from Ford Fair and it looked stunning, road presence like no other car and the people looking would only be matched by driving a lambo I would guess.

our evo is heavier on fuel than the cossie..
but out the box the evo pisses over a std cossie

and you dont need the chassis weldin on the evo,s when its due for mot
but the cossie is a true legend

Well i had two Escort Cosworths, the last one being a minty mint low miler and now i have a mint low mileage Evo VI Tommi Makinen. As much as i loved the Escos, i dont think id go back. Admittedly the Evo is a weekend toy, but its so much fun. Quicker, handles better, its not a ford, etc etc......
I still polish it like the Escos and dont like getting it dirty, but i use it, properly!!!
Why do people always go on about cost of fuel, cost of running, modifying, blah blah blah!! If you cant afford it, dont moan about it. If anything the Evo is cheaper to modify! And so much better!

yes .....!!!! but you are not driving it !!! the computers are a granny could go fast in an evo sorry but it's the truth

you have to drive cossy simple as that no computers on these bloody things

instead of having 10 cossies why didn't you build a proper one with the right bits on they do handle then and yes still with out computers

Isnt this the whole point of the thread... sorry to pick on your quote Marco.

The evo is far far superior in every way. You have to go ALL out to build a cossie to even match a fairly standard evo.

ps. The granny driving thing is pish. I had to be more on my toes in my 6 RS 2 than i ever did in my 380hp 4x4 saff.

I think alot of it is the fun/danger aspect of the cossie with no traction control, no super active YAWN I mean YAW control especially on the 2wd cossies just a brassic lsd.

My car didnt have active yaw or abs... not all evos have ayc and even the ones with certainly dont drive themselves. Only idiots who havent driven one say that.

eh I have driven a evo 6 and a 4 so i've based my comparison on those experiances and come on lets be honest the electronics do make a average driver look very good do you not agree?, not a idiot i'm a petrol head through and through and prefer the untamed power so to speak (probably why I got a s13 200sx lol).

For the record I loved the evo 6 just not for me. Which models came without ayc etc was it the RS?

hi ollie

yes i do agree the evo is better than the cossy in standard form age an tecno ect

but you have to admit the computers make the car what it is

dont think that i haven't driven one and got my cossy blinkers on because i have driven a few yes great cars but not my cup of tea

they would make a crap driver look good ... if you really think that your driving the car then theres nothing else i can say

the only evo which i rate is the rs version with no driving aids that drives more like a cossy

Marco mine was a 6 RS 2 as i said so no AYC or ABS and it was trickier than my cossie on the limit.

Cars with AYC definitely do not drive themselves but id agree they can make a poor driver a bit more capable.

I think people say they drive themselves only because they really do drive that well that if feels like it but in reality they arent pushing them near their limits.

I managed to spin my Evo VIII 6 times at brunters so they have their limits, but then I was trying to get through the chicane faster and faster

Personally I think everyone should get an Evo it just makes my Cossie even more special

Just a thought, all these people saying cossies have soul and character and thats why they like them and prefer them to the jap stuff, could it not just be that its because its just down to a taste thing and in your genes just like why some people prefer fat mnsters to thin birds?

Only if they say it without having driven the Jap cars.

I always threaten I will sell my car and get something else (keeps it on it's toes ), but having driven LOADS of different cars (not just Jap), it is hard to find something that I know would fill my need for constant tinkering and fun.

Thats what i mean though, just because people dont find evo's and the like exciting and involving to drive doesnt mean that "they have no soul" it just means that the person doesnt find the car "involving and exciting". I can understand what people are saying but this whole soul and charactor argument is the same sort of argument as "ye your bird might be fit as fuck but my fat stinker has a far better personality" lol

I still find it comical that people are arguing that a car 20 years newer is better.... It fucking should be, by a long way!!! If you want an Evo, go buy one, if not, welcome to Passion FORD!! .... Is there rule saying we must have a thread covering Evo's Vs Cossies on the first page at all times? It has been done to death now, and it is the same answer every time.
